Tips for mouse navigation only? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I've always been a Meedio user, but due to the recent events have now moved towards Media Portal. One thing I notice immediately is that I need a keyboard to navigate where I just like to use the mouse on it's own. For example, how do I return to the main screen whilst browsing my videos? Using the forward/back buttons doesn't work.

I don't wish to use a remote control as I have enough of them for the TV, amp, Sky digibox, etc. I really like the idea that I can use the mouse for everything in Media Portal, but I'm not having much luck.

Any tips / pointers on this would be much appreciated!

Yes, dump the lot and get a good universal one that can also control a pc.

    My Advice, no offence.

As I said, I don't want another remote. I hate them. I really like using my wireless mouse, and with Meedio I had it control everything.

Here is my wishlist, and if anyone has the answer (without dumping my hardware) then I'd be very grateful:

    1) The forward / back button on my mouse doesn't work in MediaPortal. Can it be fixed?

    2) Can I use WinAmp as the default music player? When I tried getting this to work, MediaPortal crashed.

    3) When browsing the skins in MediaPortal, you can't flick though them without it changing the skin. What happened to the good old preview? (I know you can do this in the MediaPortal setup, but I'm referring to the settings once it's running!)

    4) When using the picture slideshow, I'd like to be able to skip to the next picture (using the mouse). Is this possible?

The forward / backward are HID commands, which you have to enable (Configuration / Remote Contral / HID). Then you should be able to use them (and map them as well).

    Hi l9nux,
I am a touchscreen user myself which is not far away from mouse usage.
First of all I use Blue 2 skin which is the only one that works well with mouse.
But I have to admit that there is not really a skin made for us mouse/touch users.

2nd you need to enable topbar.
Then when u r in videos move the mouse to the top and the topbar will appear bringing u a level back.

As for a good universal remote.. check the Logitech Harmony range.. controls everything, even the kitchen sink :)

    1) I allways use mp with a mouse (well plus keyboard).
You can leave allmost every screen with a right mouse click. I think - I do these things so automated that I can´t tell for sure. Sometimes the option is in a context menu.
Easiest way is the topbar as cheffe97 said.

    2) why would you want to do this, but should be possible anyway.

Moved your thread to "general support" because "Tips and Tricks is only for working tricks (answers) not questions.

    Have fun with mp

    Thanks for the help everyone.

I've now started using RealMP as a skin, but I wish there were more skins available out there. What I discovered is that I can right click (away from any menus etc) to return to the main menu. I'll definately enable the topbar as that sounds like what I need.

In regards to Winamp, I've used it for years and just got comfortable with it's playlists, visuals etc. I also like to be able to click anywhere on a songs progress bar to skip to that section, which I don't seem to be able to achieve with MediaPortal.

As with most things, I'm sure there is a way, I just need to find out how to tweak it!
