Greetings everyone

Have a problem here and can't seem to find a good answer after searching. Running the original 1.0 release of MP and trying to get my Blu Ray DVD to play (in the drive) with any dvd player program within MP. Is this possible or am I missing something? I have tried PowerDVD ver. 8 and currently now have TMT 2.1.6.125 (latest version as of today) installed. The programs play the DVD just fine outside of media portal, but when I attempt to click on the play DVD button (once under the my video's main menu) from within Media portal, I hear/see it attempting to access the drive, but then eventually comes back with a message "Please insert Disc" even though the disc is in the drive.

I have set the configuration to use the appropriate programs codec's and even tried checking the box to load the player externally and can't seem to get it to even do that. Can anyone tell me if I am missing a setting here? If anyone needs more info, please let me know. I tried to include the relevant info below.

I was having troubles too with Total Media installed; the installation took over my codecs, even if I selected the correct ones (DVD navigator) in Mediaportal. I wanted Total Media player to play Blu Ray for me. DVD playback though can be done best in the Mediaportal player itself; Total Media has worse playback quality than the internal player of MP.

Are you trying to playback a DVD or a BluRay film? There is no such thing as a BluRay DVD, it's either BluRay or DVD :)

Your BluRay drive may be able to read DVD's, but you cannot play BluRay in MediaPortal (well, at least not in the internal player).

Thanks for the comments Snader, I will keep that in mind.

Pilehave- please excuse my improper statement? I just want to play a blue ray disc in my blu ray capable player on my htpc. More specific, I want to be able to play it within Media Portal by going to the my videos button and then selecting play dvd. Is this not the right way to do it??

    In a dream-scenario, yes :)

Writing a piece of software that can play BluRay is a pretty advanced task. Even the DVD-player of MediaPortal is "only" an implementation of existing software.

So...don't expect to see MP playing BluRay...not for a LONG time at least. Fortunately there are ways of getting 3rd party software to do the playback and integrate it so it LOOKS like it's MP playing BluRay.

That is what I'm having trouble getting setup. I have set MP Configuration settings to play back the Blu Ray Disc in the drive with powerDVD and when that didn't work, I tried the same with Total Theatre. MP just sits there and eventually gives me that message when its supposed to be opening the 3rd party app right?

Thanks for the reply tourettes. Still can't get Blu Ray to play or even open up its player to play the dvd. Here is my config setting. If I have this set correctly, I should be using the 3rd party player to play dvd's and point it to the uMCEDVDplayer after installing the mpi file that you linked me to right?

I still get the same stuff though. I can hear and see that it is trying to read the dvd, but I just can't get it to open the Arcsoft player for the disc. If I put in a regular dvd though, it plays within MP just fine. What am I missing here?

You have to use the skin-file for Arcsoft and link to that file, the Window-ID is 8080. Setting the ArcSoft player as a DVD-player is wrong, you don't have to configure anything there. If you use any of the standard-skins the plugin will allready be active in your main-menu.

Did you even read the description in the Arcsoft-plugin page?

    - Install the MPI file
    - Use plugin settings to provide the path to the Arcsoft's MCE plugin
    - You might need to change some Arcsoft's MCE plugin settings (for example make sure that drive letter is set up correctly)

    Usage

    - Insert HD DVD / Blu-Ray disk into drive
    - Press "Play Bluray" in main menu
    - Use MCE remote to control playback
