Hi,

I've just started using MediaPortal (it is great!!) but have a question I need to fand an aswer for. I've recorded a tv show in .ts format and do not find a way to transcode it into xvid.

I've tried the included converter as well as the video converter plugin but i get an error.

Can someone help? Are there any easy programs to handle the conversion?

Do you specifically want to do it from within MediaPortal? If not, you can try MCEBuddy.

You can also search the forums for mcebuddy if you need more info.

Thnks for the input. In fact I was tryin to find a program outside of Mediaportal but I'll give this one a try. I'm also testing Avidemux at the moment and it seems to be doing ok. Rgds,

Don't forget in MCEBuddy config, you need to define which formats are covered as dvr-ms is the only default, mines set at *.ts as i only use it for TV recordings, but you can add whatever you wish, its not fast, but the resulting h.264 files are excellent quality.

Does MCEBuddy still have the limitation that it cant really handle subfolders? i.e. cant find a .ts in a subfolder, and then convert and move the result into the same subfolder.

Yep, look like it does not support subfolders yet, been waiting for version 2.0 to come out, but it's been a year since that was started.

Have to do some things manually with it, for files that i wish to keep, do not use that much maybe 3\4 times a week, so dropping a file into my transcode folder is no great headache, fine for desktop solution, but not for htpc by remote.

Hmm I might have to look into some sort of alternative then - my .ts recordings are quickly filling up my HD!

Ill have a google and see whats available, maybe i just need to write a small app/batch file to do what i want

This way it's not done automatic, but you can use ProjectX to demux your ts files and use something like ReJig, to make DVD files from the demuxed ts file and then use a DVD-ripper program to convert the DVD to Xvid (don't know, if there is an app that can convert the demuxed ts file to Xvid).
Both ProjectX and ReJig are free software.
