Troubles with Matrox card (1 Viewer)

When I launch MediaPortal client on PC where I have a Matrox G450 PCI card,
I'm getting a message telling me that nothing will be rendered because my
rendering device has reduced-functionality and nothing works. What does that means?
The TV server is working.

Is that necessary only to be able to see TV streams or for videos too?
I'm asking that because I would like to use this PC mostly as a TV server and PVR
and never use it to directly watch TV. But I would need MP interface to be able
to control the thing with a remote. (I could even think to leave the TV off as long
as I can schedule a recording).

Is there any workaround?

How come that MPTVClient 1.3.1. (with VLC) works on streams (and Hauppauge WinTV too)?
And VLC works on videos too?

Thanks.

PS.

I found another old 2006 thread about a Matrox G450 but it was not helpful.
At least, I'd like to understand something more...

My guess is that the gfx is not DX9 capable, which is a requirement for using MP - but not VLC and other apps.
