Sry for long post i have spent so much time trying to get this right.

Ok i'm trying to get an optimum set up for my MP preferences and have come up short.
Overall its pretty good but not there yet so i would really appreciate help with this pls.
This is ultimately want i want to set up=
  1. I have 2500 movies in 3 Hd's...i want to be able to view them in one directory without using arrows.
This is apparently title view. Great but i want them in genres, rather than a never ending list. I dloaded movie info (IMDB) but it doesnt do genres you have to do it manualy (i could be soooo wrong!). i dont want to set up 2500 manual genre entries.

2. Want to have the movie info (IMDB) but want to use my own cover art (already dloaded). When i get IMDB info it over rides my thumb files. I can select my own path...but dont want to do that 2500 times either :). So how do i get the movie info and keep my own thumbs...or get all the info and re direct to my thumbs path in one go for all movies?

3. I have posted this elsewhere...split screen view.....giant thumb one one side...movie info on other like "list' but massive...any ideas?

Thank you for your patience and hopefully help.

Hi Porky,
Yes have used the plugin. Found it (or me) lacking. Yes it creates genres, but it doesnt take them from the ones i have already created. It also puts movies into its own genre when you take movie info from IMBD for example. So a movie like 10, 000 ends up being in 4 different genres. I can change my thumbs but had to do it a file at a time (althoug may need more looking into on my part). And the thumbs that dload with movie info are poor quality.

So i found the results similar with or without the plugin :(

stick to moving pictures, setup custom genres in the moving pictures configuration, basically setup a custom category with an if statement that refers to your genre (I assume you grouped them into genres based on directory). Check the moving pictures wiki for detailed instructions on setting up custom categories.

PS> Moving pictures supports using your only cover art, in the settings page you can choose to have the importer use local files.

I wouldn't say that, but good to know you concur. I looked at your specs, have you thought of running snapshot on your server, it's a little bit like raid.

Yeah there is flex raid and snap shot. They are not like regular raid in that the file system on the media drives remains normal so id the raid dies you can access the files without rebuilding the raid, also means that you don't format the drives at the start so you can keep existing data on the drive. With your 6 x 2tb this would give you 10tb of storage and 2tb for parity (backup), snapshot is designed for drives that don't frequently change, eg. media drives.
