Hi

I'm looking at getting a TBS 6981 and was wondering what they're like? Are they any good? Reliable? Stable?

Where did people get them from and how much did you pay?
The price of these seems to vary from £85 delivered (from Taiwan, ebay) to £170 delivered (from UK, ebay).

Why are they so 'underground'? Why are they not as common as the blackgold card?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

    Hi mate,

I just installed one of these for a customer in London who got fed up with bad DVB-T reception in their area so installed a dish instead. I set i up literally yesterday so it's very early days, but first impressions are really good. In fact the best DVB-S/DVB-S2 card I've used so far. It's installed into a stand-alone system (Win 7 x32, quad core, 4GB ram, integrated graphics on ASUS M4A78LT-M LE mobo) and has been totally stable so far, all freesat SD and HD channels play lovely and channel changes are some of the quickest I've ever seen.

I got mine from BuyDVB Ecommerce and cost £111 including shipping. Ordered Monday last week, received Thursday morning. If you can wait I'll report back later this week with an update (but remind me!), but so far so good.

    Cheers
    Si

These cards are on amazon.co.uk for £75. Not had any trouble so far. They are advertised as 6980 but they send 6981's.

Someone over at avforums told me the same, I had already ordered one when you posted, thanks though!

All I need now is the Sky enhancements plugin to be finished, wink wink!!

I got this card too.. Would not say its that reliable. But I am running window xp and with old hardware.. I hope to upgrade my motherboard + cpu + ram with onboard gfx that should save power and less noise.

I had the same problem, turned out it was the card itself. Kept on freezing windows and overheating.

Try it in another motherboard if you can as you might have to return it.

I tell you what is was doing.. It would not work on ITV1 just black screen and no tv guide for that channel. Restart 7 times still not working after about 2 hours and a rescan of all the channels and a restart of the tv server it started to working..

Now its doing the same thing with Channel 4. But they are some new drivers just come out so going to install them at the weekend and see if that helps..

    Crash,

Did you ever resolve your issues? I'm interested in getting this card as the BBC move over to DVB-S2 on Monday so I'm gonna start losing channels so time to bite the bullet and upgrade.

    Thanks in advance.

what drivers / setup are you using if you got this working?

I just bought one of these cards on amazon for £75, to get my BBCHD back (I didn't know it was changing to S2, grrr!).

I also rebuilt my MP tv server (it needed doing anyway) so its a shiny fresh install of Win7 64bit, MP version 1.1.3.
my existing TV cards (BG3450 pci-e, Pinnacle 4010 pci) work fine and are fully operational in MP. the new one, installed fine with the 2.0.18 drivers from tbs. I run a channel scan with the new one against astra 28.2e - I get ZERO channels. Tried it with and without dvb-s2 support enabled. Also tried the same with TBS's own scan / viewing app DVBviewer. same result. It shows a good signal strength , but for some reason no channels are being picked up. mystified.
I have no diseq or anything like that just straight to the dish (via a multiswitch). cables to the new card were working fine on the older cards.

    cheers
    Ian
