    Hi again Roger

Interesting - do you have the logs for that test? I will also try it when I get home and see if I can reproduce.

AW: Re: Tuner is locked after single transponder scan

    Hi mm,

sorry for delay because of illness.

    A new tv.log is attached.
Starts withs EPD disabled and three successive manual scans with the DVB-T section.

    Then EPG enabled again.

Now mostly the 2nd manual scan isn't executed because of Tuner-card locked message.
Is freed again automatically by going to "Manual Control" section or alternatively to "Test channels" section.
This always frees the tuner-card for scanning even when the DVB-S tuner-card section is busy with EPG-grabbing.

Sometimes it's possible to do 2 or 3 successive manual scans but that's probably because the DVB-S at just this moment is not EPG-grabbing.

So it looks like the following to me:

    - When I'm in the tuning-section the first DVB-T scan always "overrides" or "unlocks" the momentarily DVB-S EPG-grabbing part of the hybrid card.

    - Only a direct successive second scan-attempt does not override/unlock/free DVB-S EPG-grabbing and only works when by chance DVB-S is not EPG-grabbing (or EPG-grabbing disabled).

    - Strangely, simply going to the "Manual Control" or "Test Channels" section also frees the card for the next manual (DVB-T) scan even if it is active with DVB-S EPG-grabbing.

I still have to try, if the same behaviour is with manual DVB-S scanning.

    Kind regards

    Roger

    Hi again Roger

I'll tell you what I see in the logs:

    1. 23:37:45: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    2. 23:38:08: Towards the end of the scan, the scheduler needs to start recording "Einsfestival 23:38-00:00 Musik Convoy" - it decides to use the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner, ignoring (or overriding???) the fact that the DVB-T part is currently scanning. Recording started.
    3. 23:38:13: Scanning completes (no channels found). At the end of the scan, it looks like the scanner stops the recording (!!!).
    4. 23:38:40: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. If step 3 did not kill the recording then this certainly would have - card switched to DVB-T mode.
    5. 23:39:09: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    6. 23:39:13: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card already in DVB-T mode.
    7. 23:39:42: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    8. 23:40:02: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card already in DVB-T mode.
    9. 23:40:31: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    10. 23:40:32: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    11. 23:40:48: EPG grabber finishes.
    12. 23:40:49: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card already in DVB-S mode.
    13. 23:41:02: EPG grabber finishes.
    14. 23:41:04: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    15. 23:41:32: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    16. 23:41:34: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    17. 23:41:47: EPG grabber finishes.
    18. 23:41:49: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card already in DVB-S mode.
    19. 23:41:57: EPG grabber finishes.
    20. 23:41:59: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    21. 23:42:27: Scanning completes (no channels found).

    23. 23:42:32: EPG grabber interrupted. Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    24. 23:43:01: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    25. 23:43:02: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    26. 23:43:05: EPG grabber interrupted. Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    27. 23:43:34: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    28. 23:43:35: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.

    30. 23:43:55: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card already in DVB-S mode.
    31. 23:44:09: EPG grabber finishes.
    32. 23:44:11: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    33. 23:44:39: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    34. 23:44:40: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    35. 23:44:43: EPG grabber interrupted. Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    36. 23:45:12: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    37. 23:45:13: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    38. 23:45:14: End of log

I really don't know what information I can take from that (apart from that there may be a recording/scanning interaction bug :() because I can't tell whether you were receiving messages that the tuner is busy or what tabs you were going to. It looks like you successfully interrupted the grabber several times...

Sometimes it's possible to do 2 or 3 successive manual scans but that's probably because the DVB-S at just this moment is not EPG-grabbing.
As you can see, the EPG grabber is always *very* quick to start using the tuner so I don't think it is because the grabber is not grabbing.

    Any further thoughts?

AW: Re: Tuner is locked after single transponder scan

    Hi mm,

I didn't recognize that there was a scheduled recording going on during my testing.

Nevertheless what I can see from the logs is the following:

    14. 23:41:04: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    15. 23:41:32: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    16. 23:41:34: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    17. 23:41:47: EPG grabber finishes.
    18. 23:41:49: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card already in DVB-S mode.
    19. 23:41:57: EPG grabber finishes.
    20. 23:41:59: Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.

    Between step 16 und 17 I tried a new DVB-T scan.
This is sadly not reflected in the log.
Obviously the EPG-grabbing finishes, but the card isn't freed.

Instead, after the unsuccesful scan attempt EPG-grabbing the same channel starts again in step 18.
Then between steps 18 und 19 I went to the "manual control" and then tried a new scan, which successfully starts at step 20.
Strange. EPG-grabbing gets finished but the card isn't freed.

In the next part of the log one can see how it looks like if two successive scan-attempts do work.
The difference is that here it says "EPG grabber interrupted" instead of "EPG grabber finishes",

    22. 23:42:29: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    23. 23:42:32: EPG grabber interrupted. Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    24. 23:43:01: Scanning completes (no channels found).
    25. 23:43:02: EPG grabber starts grabbing SIXX (12545000) using the HVR-3000 DVB-S tuner. Card switched to DVB-S mode.
    26. 23:43:05: EPG grabber interrupted. Scan 675000 with HVR-3000 DVB-T. Card switched to DVB-T mode.
    27. 23:43:34: Scanning completes (no channels found).

I'm afraid, we won't be able to resolve the exact source of the "problem".

Now since a few days I have upgraded my hybrid-card to it's sister model Hauppauge HVR 4000.
This is basically the same as the HVR 3000 but with DVB-S2 capabilities instead of DVB-S.

I didn't have to upgrade the drivers because they are the same as with the HVR 3000 and my other card Nova HD-S2.
Just changed the cards, deleted the old cards in the TV-server, created a new hybrid card and reassigned the already scanned channels and everything worked OK including multiple successive DVB-T scanning!

I have attached the latest TV.log where at the end I did some multiple DVB-T scanning.

So perhaps the whole thing was once again only a kinda glitch from my (previous) hardware setup?

    Kind regards

    Roger
