Turning TV off resulting in disabled dual view (1 Viewer)

Hi folks,

i am running MP quite a while now and I am very happy wit this great piece of software. A few weeks ago I got a new case with internal touchscreen, so I decided to buy a new motherboard with onboard graphic card supporting dual view. After some reviews I went for Asrocks Nf7G and a Sempron-LE1300. This stuff works really great with a sufficient performance. Also the "Touchscreen LCD display Plugin" from cybermage works fantastic in this setup (Dual view, primary screen: TV, secondary screen: Build in TFT).

After I connected my Toshi via HDMI I realised that every time I turn off my TV, the dual view settings are gone and the current playback stops. The primary screen is the build in TFT. Turning on the TV again does not force the TV being the primary display again. I have to close MP (ALT-F4) and manually switch back to dual view and leave the TV running.

I searched the web for hours now and I found some bits and pieces with similar ATI related problems but not a solution for my NVIDIA problem so far.

Someone any idea?

thx

Tourettes,

thanks for your hint. I followed the link and found some useful information. It seems that NVidia has problems with the autodetection of displays and there is no opportunity to force a device to be the default primary display even when not detected properly. I installed the latest beta driver where this issue should be fixed. Will test on my toshi the next days and report.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Hi Buddyc - I hope you found a solution to this, but I was facing the same problem. To add to it, Media Portal would load in the wrong display (the samll touchscreen) if the TV was not powered on and set to the correct HDMI input when the HTPC started.

I spent a long time making sure I powered everything on in the right order, but this was not 'wife friendly', so I looked for a software solution from Intel (who make the GPU on my motherboard), to no avail.

My final solution, which works everytime was to use a cheap HDMI extender, which is powered - this fools the graphics card into thinking that the HDMI input is always 'live' so the settings don't change back.

I use a no-name HDMI 'Equalizer' from Singapore (Model 9441), but you can also get these from Black Box (Part Number 724 746 5500 - HDMI Extender).

You should be able to do the same thing with a DVI extender, in case anyone is having same problem using that media type.

Hope this helps.
