well im new to this Media Portal. Im looking for an alternative to Snapstream Beyond TV. Does this program work anything like Beyond TV. or is just that i dont know how to set it up. Does this take advantage of the IR blaster. Im mostly intereted in doing the PVR things. I have Beyond TV 3.5 and i dont really feel like paying for the new one. I rather donate for something else. i was going to try Myth TV but i really dont feel like installing linux. I never got the option to choose where my TV source is coming from. I have it connected to RCA (composite) and not to the Analog Connectection (coax). thank you everyone for you help and dont shoot me if this has been covered before. I Searched and didnt find anything. Thank you again

i am a little bit confused.

Your post sounds like you have not installed MediaPortal yet.

The Hauppauge 150 PVR you are using is supported by MediaPortal. Simply install MediaPortal 0.2.0.0, when the config wizard starts run autotune and you are done with the basic setup of MyTV :)

well i installed Version 0.2.1.0. well let just put it like this it will never find any TV channels when it scan for two reasons. 1) i have a cable box (so the channels are set through the cable box. and 2) i think this program looks only at my TV Tunners antenna and not at the Composite side of it. in order for me to watch/Record TV on my computer the software i use has to control the cable box. this is where the IR blaster comes in. I dont know but if you can DL Beyond TV and give it a shot and maybe you can see what i mean. anyway i will give the older version a try see if that fixs things.

Channels coming through your cable box:
You could try the zap2it plugin.
Sign up for a zap2it account and the plugin will automatically download
all your channels, rename them like you want and add them as external
with the source (S-Video, etc) you specify.
NOTE: The version in the MP downloads section is for the stable releases
of MP. If you are using SVN check this thread:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=8278

    IR Blaster:
Yes there is a Hauppauge IR Blaster plugin in the MP dist that you can enable
in the plugins section in the configuration(You still have to install the hauppauge SW)

I think you are going to have to get more barny on me. i tired what you said enabled the IR and dl the plug in. but when i got to change the source. all i get is CVBS#1,CVBS#2 SVHS,RBG. non of this outputs anything to the TV. and non of they say composite. nor S-video. by the way dont treat me like an expert when it comes to this kind of this. i just dont get all this. it alittle confusing for me. and there really isnt anything like a manual to help you or setup guide. is anyone has a Hauppauge 150 please help me out here

    np ;)

first, just to make sure we are on the same page.

The SVHS, CVBS#1, CVBS#2 are the alternative(non-coax) INPUTS to your PVR-150.
    SVHS=S-Video, CVBS#1, CVBS#2 would be composite I believe.
(I use s-video/svhs so I am of limited help on the other)

So....(Really, it is not as bad as it looks below)

Once you configure your PVR-150 card in the MP configuration
Make sure you have NO channels in the channel list.
Did I say make sure you have NO channels in the channel list? ;)
(why: The zap2it plugin will not change an existing external input setting)

Enable the zap2it plugin and configure it to you needs
and select the external input you will be using SVHS, CVBS#1 or CVBS#2.
Set it for one 1 day of listings until you have it setup like you want it so things move faster.

Close the zap2it config and the MP configuration.
    Launch MP.

The zap2it plugin will automatically go and get the EPG data and
add channels but it make take a few minutes so give it 5-25 minutes
depending on your PC speed, # of channels and days in you lineup.
If you are watching the whole time, when it has completed you should get
a popup in MP that it has updated the EPG.

Now go into My TV and the program guide and you should see the EPG data there.

Select one of the programs to watch and see what happens.

If you get a message about no tv card can get this channel you have to
exit MP and go back into the configuration.

Goto Television->TV Channels then select the TV Cards tab.
Select your TV card from the drop down box and select all the channels
from the "Available TV Channels" and move them to the "Assigned TV Channels" list.
    Now try MP again.

    Patrick,

I'm trying to learn about the zap2it plugin and MP (a newbie ya know) during slow periods at work!

The PC I'm using here has no TV card. Is it necessary to have a capture card in order to load the epg using the zap2it plugin?

Also, what does the "save" button in the plugin configuration do? Does this just change the lineup in my datadirect account? What method in MP does the actual loading of the programming information (I've got the source and I'm a C# programmer).

Thanks for all the good work.

    Regards
    Bob

    No.
If you have a digital lineup you should be able to just set it up and it
will add the channels with the external input you specify.
If your lineup is analog you will have to manually add the
channels AND frequencies then the plugin will update them.

    Yes.

The main method that gets things rolling is "RefreshEPG" in Zap2ItPlugin.cs
