So in summary two issues, bad drivers, anything newer than 182.06 and a bad hdmi cable. I have confirmed this by again installing the newer drivers with the new cable and it still fails.

Have you heard anything back from Nvidia? I.e. are they going to fix the issue with the newer driver version?

No response yet, I just finished testing and sent them info last night, I will post what they respond, maybe next week...

Im glad that Nvidia has at least acknowledged the issue. Im having the same problem with my ATI 9600 Pro card in my HTPC at the moment and I'll have to try reverting to a really old driver to see if the DVI/HDMI connection will be detected if the HTPC is on before the TV.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm using the same card and having the same problems.

I was using an Nvidia Geforece 5500 card that fizzled out on me...so I threw this old ATI in. Now I'm having this problem. The card actually works better than the Nvidia (quality/performance wise) other than this issue.

    Thanks

unfortunately i havent found a solution yet. :( I tried the oldest Catalsyt version i could find on guru3d, and still experience this issue. I came from using an old FX5200 and the ATI is much better in the image quality department.

There is some good news though - my other computer (which will soon become my new HTPC) has an X800XL, and it works just fine with the DVI/HDMI connection. Hopefully this means that newer cards will be OK - but I would really like to get the 9600 setup to work correctly too.

I had a similar issue with my system. Always had to put my Sony Bravia in power saver mode or i would lose the hdmi sync and need to use hdmion to reestablish the connection.

But since i updated to Win7 x64 & Cat 9.9 i do not have this issue, it just works. Now i can turn the sony off en back on hours later and the picture is reestablished!

I've got the same problem with my system an no solution so far..

But I have another question, which I thought would be good to ask here instead of opening a new thread.

Is there a possibility to turn automatically on my TV an switch to the right channel if I turn on my htpc from the stand-by?

Something like an "wake on hdmi"?

Well, my sony bravia does support such a feature (in the options menu i have a control for hdmi section, including the option to turn the tv on). But when i try to activate that option, it tells me that no supported hdmi devices are found. So i think that my ati hd3200 does not support such a feature, for nvidia i have no idea.

I have a harmony programmable remote and this basically works like that. You can change the order in which devices are powered on.
I also have a panasonic tv and suffer the same issue. I have simply programmed a htpc activity on my remote that sequentially switches on my tv, puts it to the right hdmi input and then starts the htpc.

I started having the same issue after moving to Win 7 with a Nvidia GT220 connected via hdmi to our Sony Bravia.
Each time I turned off or changed inputs on the TV, you could hear the device uninstall in Windows and when turning the TV back on you could often see MediaPortal trying frantically to resize itself from a lower resolution (probably default VGA or something) back to the native 1080P of the TV. Often this didn't work properly either with a black screen, freezing MediaPortal or somethimes leaving it running vga in the corner of a 1080P resolution desktop (even though MediaPortal was set to run fullscreen)

Answer for me was to swap my hdmi-hdmi cable for a DVI-hdmi one. The display device in Windows now remains intact whether the TV is on or off and HDCP still works.
