Okay, well after 7 hours of trying to find an answer and to figure it out, I'm getting ready to kill someone. For the life of me I can't figure this out.

When I try to setup the TV server (I have my Sky Set top box plugged into my card through S-Video) the card is recognised, the S-video channels are found, all good. But, when I try to preview etc. I get the no 'SWEncoder' error message.

I've tried installing about 6 different versions of powerDVD, I've used the SAF codecs (with the manual install of the Cyberlink MPEG codec). But still nothing.

Could someone please help me out? Because it's driving me insane.

I know I'm using Windows 7 and it's not supported, but as the codec does support 7, it shouldn't really make much difference in the registering. But either way, I'm going to try it on Vista tomorrow.

But in the meantime if anyone has any ideas, please put them forth.

Thanks

What you need to install is a DirectShow software encoder - a codec that converts the analog signal from the S-Vidio input to digital (MPEG2). The codecs you have been installing from PowerDVD and SAF are decoders, which do the opposite.

Have you installed the whole application software that came with your Asus Tiger Hybrid, as that should include a suitable encoder?

    thanks for the reply.

I dont have any software for the card, just a driver, and i can't find any software on the asus site.

I have read on here that people generally use a 3rd party encoder. Any ideas which ones and where to get them?

Also, in the wiki it suggests to use the powerdvd install to 'get' the encoder, as one of the options. So I am oh so very confused.

I am not sure if it will work, but you could try an application like TotalMedia 3.5 which is available as a free trial? It has the capability to capture analog video from composite and S-video devices. It is possible that the encoder that is installed with TotalMedia will work with your card and be accepted by MediaPortal?

Thanks for the suggestion, but after several more hours of searching I managed to find an encoder that works (Intervideo encoder). Now though I have a new problem. The preview window shows up in TV Server Config, but all I get is a blank screen. Same within MP itself. :-/ Only just started looking through the Forums to see if there was a solution already posted, but as yet no joy. :(

Have a look at your MediaPortal log files - they will give you a clue to what the problem is - or attach them here for us to take a look at.

Okay, tried for a couple more hours to figure this out, had a look at the logs, but from my limited understanding of how to read them it seems like it's working fine.

I've added the logs, wasn't sure which one would be most useful so have added both MP and the TV server logs.

Well, I got the Sky working on MP by using the RF out connection into my capture card. Not ideal but it works.

Will see how things go, but if I cant get S-Video working I may scrap MP and go to MCE, simply because it works without all the hassle.
