TV server config....doesn't like my hostname...or dependency! (1 Viewer)

When trying to enter TV server config.....my hostname and dependency are both highlighted RED...and no connection can be made to either of the 2 SQL databases....so not possible to proceed to config.

What am I doing wrong here!!??

PS...... MP documentation so far encountered....wrt MySQL....appears totally unhelpful.
Instructions wrt MySQL Workbench seem not to relate to the version of Workbench that I found.

Tried re-installing this....and now can't get past initial install...see "MySQL - set password error: 1"

...BTW...I used "1 - click - install"

Any tips would be much appreciated!
I have just done a clean install of Win8...hence the need to re-install MP!!

    1) Are you using static IP and just IP addressing - assumption you can use names will often be a problem, and DHCP WILL BE a problem.
    2) Use defaults for accounts/passwords - this is NOT good security practice, say's security pro, but working 1st, cafty 2nd.
    3) Using a base install, don't see reason you need to tinker with workbench - can you expand in why?
    4) Firewalls - turn OFF [see item 2!]
    5) Documentation - why unhelpful [details please to help those who maintain docs to be more clued into real problems & hence improve their contributions]?

    Win8 - no reason I know of it to be problem as such [but not tested it in TV server land], would expect it to work as simple DB on network port.

    Given, be default, your service has 'reduced' security settings, don't go near Internet, nasty trixey place, on your server or client!!!

    Can you update your system info, and post logs of build to help?

    Cheers - JCMP

    PS - yep, I did follow you over here:)

    Thanks Jim!!

    I'm struggling with the whole 'fixed IP' and fixed DNS settings thing.....:cry:

    I have found my IP address.....but how do I get settings for the other entries....subnet gateway....DNS servers.....aaaggghhh!!!!!

    Am I correct in saying that the hostname is my IP address?......really confused here!!!:(

    Found the reference to MySQL workbench in the wiki......but this didn't help me...at any rate.

    MediaPortal Wiki > MediaPortal 1 > Customization > TV-Server > SQL Server > MySQL

    I'm now at the stage where the instal won't complete becqause of the MySQL problem.

    Perhaps there's a page in the documentation that I've missed that shows how to set static IP etc...?

    What are 'logs of build'...?

    Thanks again...and for following me:):):)

    Hello Kev

    If you installed with a one-click install, then uninstalled, then tried to reinstall... the MySQL from the first install was probably left installed and is the likely source of part of your problems. Please completely remove MediaPortal and MySQL by using the Windows add/remove program feature in control panel, then reinstall.

    I have found my IP address.....but how do I get settings for the other entries....subnet gateway....DNS servers.....aaaggghhh!!!!!
    If you think you've found your IP address I think it is likely you've misunderstood.
    Try this:
    1. Click start, type "cmd" and hit enter/return.
    2. Type "ipconfig" and hit enter/return.
    3. Right click, select all... right click, copy.
    4. Paste the output here.

    Am I correct in saying that the hostname is my IP address?......really confused here!!!:(
    They're related... but no.

    Perhaps there's a page in the documentation that I've missed that shows how to set static IP etc...?
    No, but the internet has plenty of resources.

    Right, okay.
    So to set up a static IP address, enter:
    IP address = 192.168.0.2
    Subnet = 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway = <IP address of router, probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254>
    Preferred DNS server = <IP address of router>

    OK..entered those values...uninstalled MP and MySQL....but still run into error 1 password problem at the install MySQL stage.

    Perhaps there are still traces of the old MySQL?

    Thanks for the input...:)

    Please specify exactly what you've entered for each field. In other words:
    hostname = ???
    dependency = ???
    etc.

    ...the last time I saw that window was 3 or 4 un-installs ago....now I don't get that far!!

    Hostname was Main-PC......and I'm not sure about the dependency....but both were red

    ......BTW...I don't recall entering anything into that window...it appeared already 'populated'
