Hello everyone,

I am encountering this strange problem with my Tv-server -> MP client. I have a one seat installation so the tv-server is installed on the same pc as my client. I set up everything with tv and all and it was working all fine. Untill after a few weeks suddenly my mp-client stated that the tv-server could not be found, and that I should give the correct name. So I went in to some of the configuration of the client and tv-server. Both where unchanged and I actually had no idea what the problem could be. So I checked the error log and here I found something strange, it stated it couldn't parse the name of the tv-server. However the error log at this moment is clear, so I can't post this(quite odd). But still the client doesn't find my tv-server. How do I fix this is there a possibility to only reinstall my tv-server, as I do not want to reinstall my entire installation?

Hope you can help,

Murfix

Hello Murfix,

Try setting the MP configuration to use the TV server's IP address instead and see if that works. If you use DHCP (thus your IP address changes) then try 127.0.0.1 (loopback address), never tried using a loopback address within the configuration though so it may not work.

Sounds like to me your name resolution is no longer working, if you are entering a DNS name as the TV Server within your MP configuration then a DNS record has to exist on the DNS server you use. If you are using just a standard NetBIOS name then it could well be that firewalls are preventing NBT based name resolution.

Thanks.

Gary.

Hey,

I have some new info about the problem so hope someone can help.
I am able to open the rtsp stream with vlc. So my guess is that the problem lies somewhere in the client install.
So I checked the log files and found this error log (See Attachment). So I also checked the gentle.config as the error log said something was wrong about it. And this was empty  . I think this is the problem but how do I solve this now?

Thnx

Hello,

It looks like to me that the gentle.config file only has one custom setting per MP install and that relates to the database configuration that MP uses, therefore if you have a MP install available on another PC you could copy the file from the other PC and overwrite the blank file you have, you would then need to chage the XML items in the file relating to your database configuration. However on a single seat installation there will be two gentle.config files one in the MP Application Data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal) and one in the MP TV Server Application Data folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server).

Could you confirm which of the two configuration files is empty? I would be more than happy to provide you my gentle.config file and highlight the section you will need the changes I believe are required.

Thanks.

Gary.
