I have gone through wiki and most of forum(can only stare at screen for so long!) but haven't found answer to this. I'm planning on setting up TV server and MP/client on XPsp2 and another client on XPsp2. I don't want TV server to be on all the time, just when i turn on the client, is that possible? I would rather have the server in standy when not being used. I don't mind not having the timeshifted buffer. I would like to bring machine out of standy using remote(which is possible with mce remote so i'm glad) to watch and have server wakeup to record based on schedule. I'm moving to MP from VistaMC just to have good sever/client setup. I'm happy with VistaMC as standalone but cannot find a good, quiet client(tried an extender but slow enough to be annoying). Hope someone can help. I appreciate it and i'm sure I'll have more questions once I get the build going. I have heard great things about MP community..Thanks in advance.:D

You can install the TV server on the client machine (i.e. all one machine.). I am pretty sure the tvScheduler plugin will work with waking up the machine when recording is required but if you add a second client into the mix, you will have to wake the TV Server machine before the client will connect. Maybe there is some way of executing wake on lan before the 2nd client starts up could be a soultion or installing a second TV Server on the second client......just my 2 cents worth. Others will surely add to this.

    you can do:

    • PC1:
      • MediaPoartal + Client Plugin
      • TV-Server
    • PC2:
      • MediaPoartal + Client Plugin

MyTV will only work on PC2 if PC1 is also running.
TV-Server will automatically start on PC1 when powering it up
