Hello -

I chose MP as an alternative to WMC because WMC had no EPG for quite a while. I had MP 1.12 working great, getting the EPG from IMDB, and scanning the recordings for commercials. It was great and I absolutely loved having the commercials removed by comskip.

I don't know what happened but I noticed a week or two ago that the few recordings I thought were scheduled were not occurring and that the EPG was blank. I watch TV maybe once a week so didn't notice right away because I was only watching programs recorded earlier. The computer was rebooted at least once in the past couple weeks.

When I went to try to configure the TV settings it says something like "TVService isn't running. Do you want to start TVService?" to which I click "Yes". It fails and throws up an error. Sorry but I didn't capture the screen. I've attached the MP logs in hopes that someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

    Hello

It looks to me like TV Server is no longer installed, or at least not installed properly. I say that based on what I see in the TV Server Configuration log file:
    [2016-02-29 01:52:08,623] [Log ] [SetupTv ] [INFO ] - ---- start tvservice----
[2016-02-29 01:52:08,654] [Log ] [SetupTv ] [ERROR] - ServiceHelper: Starting TvService failed. Please check your installation.
Error: System.InvalidOperationException: Service TvService was not found on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service does not exist as an installed service

I can see that you ran the MediaPortal installer earlier:
[ INFO] MediaPortal TV Server / Client installation
    [ INFO] Logging started: 29.02.2016 0:48:01
    [ INFO] installer version: 1.12.0.0

    Why did you do that?

To me it appears like that installation attempt may have messed things up. I can see the following in the Windows application event log:
    "2/29/2016 12:47:12 AM";".NET Runtime";"(0)";"Error";"Application: TVService.exe
    Framework Version: v4.0.30319

    ...which suggests the installation failed.

I think your only option here may be to uninstall and then reinstall.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to reinstall MP precisely because when I tried to manually start the TVService with "net start tvservice" it said it could not be found.

I just remembered that I also uninstalled NextPVR around the time things starting acting up since I had gotten MP working so well and didn't need NextPVR around anymore. Perhaps this uninstallation of NextPVR messed things up initially. Maybe my reinstallation of MP messed things up further.

Any other ideas to save the tuner setup and EPG setup for after the reinstall? Are they stored in a database somewhere? I remember those were the parts that took the most time. Thanks again.

Hmmm, perhaps... though that would be the first time I've heard of anything like that happening.

Yes, all settings, schedules, channels etc. are stored in a database. In your case it's a MySQL database.
You can uninstall and reinstall MediaPortal without losing that database. Just don't do a full product cleanup. I'm pretty sure that will delete the database and MediaPortal settings.

So to be clear: my recommendation is that you uninstall (not full product cleanup) and reinstall. You should find your settings etc. intact after doing that.

Yay!! The uninstall (not full product cleanup) and reinstall worked great. The only thing I had to redo was set up the www_imdb_com.xml file again for getting the EPG to populate using the WebEPG plugin. Thanks for your help!
