Increased buffering results in increased zapping time ans seeking time. After each channel change or seeking in the stream the buffer has to be flushed and refilled. Because the streaming protocol (RTP) sends data at the rate which they need to be consumed (or else they would pile up) filling the buffer takes as much time as watching it (if you buffer 10 seconds of video you need 10 seconds to fill the buffer before you can actually start watching the video).
Obviously a compromise has to be made and certain minimum requirements set for the supporting network. IIRC currently buffering is 0.5 seconds.
No i believe it is a codec problem. I monitor the server a bit and mention a relaytionship between CPU frequencie and picture artifacts/ Sound sync. Are there any knows Problems with a I5-2400?
To improve streaming quality i have installed a hardware encoder. Which helps a lot. To improve encoding. I would like to test the Custiom encoder setting (Bitrate). It would be nice if someone can explain me Value and Peak Value.
