In MePo land, Extensions are skins and plugins, to extend the capabilities of MediaPortal beyond it's core elements. Clients are used instead of extenders, to share your TV from your Server to other areas, and access your media files as shares across your network. The Extension Installer, then, is used to see and install or update, in one spot, many of the plug-ins and skins available to MePo. There are still other extensions that are distributed independent of the Installer, and can be found in the Skins and Plugins forums.

So, I must live a boring life, huh?

What extension do you use to view your codecs and such (LAV, DIVx, etc.)? If we are using the same extension, then I'll be able to ask questions! :)

The LAV filter is the only codec that is officially installed through the Extension Installer. There are basic codecs installed when You installed MP.

You can see/select your codecs in the MP config program, or from within MePo in the settings screens, finding them depends on which skin you are using. You can get to in the classic Home screen menu. in Default skin, you can also get to it in the menu on the left border of the Basic Home screen.

Most codecs/filters can only be configured in their own config programs from your desktop, not IN MePo.

Gspot will show you all you codex and filters, you can even set the merit if you are very brave.

No codecs have been installed by me other than what Windows Media Center uses and the additional ones that come from accepting their Live TV agreement. Therefore, I also do not have any codec programs to turn to for tweaking.

I have not installed any skins on MePo because my main reason for getting MePo to work was so that I could use the MePo extension in XBMC.

I still can't get any audio in MePo, and I was only able to get Live TV audio in XBMC by setting the audio option to Analog, but then the only way I could adjust the volume was to go back into this same Settings screen.

My family has been out for 3 days, and I wanted to get XBMC/MePo to working while they were out. They will be back in a few hours, and I still have not gotten this to work. Since this PC is the Family TV, I will no longer have uninterrupted access to tinkering on it.

So, I'll likely be going back to Win7's Media Center. Perhaps when I have more time or when a newer version is out, I'll try to get this figured out again.

Was just thinking... occasionally my audio disappears ... don't know why specifically, but I just go into Volume Control on my desktop, and I find that the Wave volume has been turned down, so I bump it back up and magically my MP volume is working again (I use digital out, so I use the volumn on my surround system) ...

I'm not sure why you haven't looked at what MediaPortal can offer ... I'm not anti XBMC (MediaPortal started as a branch of XBMC) ... but if you aren't using extenders, you may find MediaPortal can give you much of the same experience that XBMC gives you, and a bit more in many areas. There is a healthy discussion in the Other HTPC Applications forum.

The Volume Control trick doesn't seem to have any effect on my system here. Prolly doing it wrong! :)

Still wasn't able to get Live TV Audio, but thought I'd try the audio on other files in MePo before the family gets back in a couple of hours, starting with the kid's shows.

So, I guess AVC and AAC won't work on my system. At least that gives me some sort of message to work with.

Here are my Video Settings. Do you see anything wrong or obvious about them? Is there a way to test these while the videos are playing? (that was a nice feature in XBMC - while the file was playing, I could make changes on the fly)

    MPEG-2 Video:

H.264 Video (easy decision that I made on my own):

    Audio Codec:

    AAC Audio Codec:

    And finally, Audio Render:

So, are any of these settings causing issues?

I can't speak for the MS codecs in Win 7 (I have Win XP) but they seem to be recommended here by Win 7 users. Neither do I use HDMI (but I will have to - when I am able to upgrade my old TV to a widescreen sometime next year)... so I cannot recommend any solution ... sorry.

Hopefully, someone else can chime in. I suspect the holidays have something to do with the silence.

I noticed the .m4v file extension. Does the video try to play in MePo?... You may have to add .m4v to the extensions list in the video section of config, to see if it will play. I'm just wondering, since I don't see it in my list.
