Hi. I am hoping for some help please.

A few weeks back I upgraded from 1.0.0 to 1.0.2. It also included an OS reinstall. The first week or 2 was fine although I could no longer get autostart MP to work.

For the last 2 weeks, event logs show that the TV service hangs on startup and TV does not work after startup or reboot. Manually restarting the service always gets the TV working. Even after changing the service properties to automatically restart when it hangs makes no difference ie 1st, 2nd all further.

There was a DHCP NACK error for a while but this was a router config error stopping the IP address lease (thought I would tell the router to always issue the same IP address to my PCs). This is fixed (turned off again) but didn't seem to affect the problem.

The setup is a single seat ie tv server and MP on 1 PC but I also have another PC that I run as a client. The connection from this PC is a 100Mbps wired connection to a wireless router (wired to Virgin Media cable modem and wireless connection to other MP client).

In the APP logs I can see that on each boot I get this error about 2-3 minutes before the TV service hangs in the SYS log:
    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: SQLBrowser
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 3
    Date: 05/09/2009
    Time: 07:10:54
    User: N/A
    Computer: MEDIA-PC
    Description:
The configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at Events and Errors Message Center: Basic Search.

Sometimes, but not all times I get a Failure Audit where the MSSQL user "sa" does not log in.

I have checked the wiki and as far as I can see, MSSQL is setup according to the default settings from the Auto install.

Does someone have any ideas please?

    Thanks, Dansta

    Hi Dansta,

There's some descriptions here on how to possibly resolve that particular SQL error: The configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid

If your server now has a different IP to what was present when SQL was first installed, this could explain the issue.

I believe the recommendation would generally be to assign a fixed IP address to the server machine, and if it is a wireless adapter that's your only network card, it might be worthwhile installing the MS "loopback" adapter as well (do a search in the MP forums for loopback). I have a single-seat HTPC with only a wireless card attached, and sometimes if I have to reset the wireless router, or if the signal drops out for some reason, by having the loopback adapter TV-server can still talk to SQL Server OK. (obviously, your remote client would lose connection, but the local client is still happy)

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Craig

    Hi Craig.

Thanks for the info. I checked out the article and unfortunately it's advice didn't help. I've also googled this error and didn't find too much top go on. My network connection is wired and has had a fixed IP address so I haven't tried the loop back.

I think I am going to bite that bullet and reinstall MP and see if that works.

    Cheers, Dansta
