What im exactly looking is a TV Tuner card that has a smartcard reader on it without using a PCMCIA adapter.

Hi, Im new to this forum and hoping one of the great minds out there could help me solve my problem.

I'm looking for a TV TUNER that will work in the cable company in my location. UAE - E-vision Cable Company.

The cable company is a digital cable tv that has a "smartcard" in their set-top box.

Im confuse between the use of CAM and smartcard. For what I understand:

CAM - needs a PCMCIA adapter to insert the card for paytv
Smart Card - a credit card size electronic card to be used in paytv.

Most TV tuner that I checked in the internet uses a CAM that needs a PCMCIA adapter.

What im exactly looking is a TV Tuner card DVB-C that has a smartcard reader on it without using a PCMCIA adapter.

Any suggestions pls. Your answer will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You need a TV tuner card with a CI slot. Then you would need a CAM that would go into the CI Slot. The subscription card from your cable company goes into the CAM. You would have to make sure that the encryption system used by your cable company matches the CAM that you buy.

The CAM is similar in size to a PCMCIA card but it goes into the CI slot of the tuner and not the PCMCIA slot.
