TV/Video Freeze and Stutter/Total crash (1 Viewer)

Thank you. I followed Holzi's instructions a few minutes ago just before Tony's post and the problem still occurs (logs attached). I am now going to try it again after making sure TVService is stopped - although I thought I had stopped it before. Trying again now.

Reinstalled with TVservice definitely disabled. Problem not solved unfortunately. I feel really guilty about the time you chaps are taking over this. Thanks for your help. I started up MP and put on the TV. Stutter occurred approximately 3.5 minutes after start-up, so I exited MediaPortal during the stutter to try and capture what was happening at the time. Logs attached.

I suggest you run MP in 'Debug Mode' - see http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/18_Contribute/2_Testing_and_Bug_Reports/WatchDog - this will disable all third-party plugins and load the default skin.

If TV etc works OK in debug mode, then go back to running MP normally and disable the third party plugins one by one - to find out if one of those is associated with the problem.

Thank you. Using your advice I have managed to get things working without stutter.

I worked through all the plugins after debug mode worked properly. Surprisingly the stutter stopped when I disabled Infoservice.

This is clearly a shame, as it restricts functionality quite significantly.

I assume it is web access that is putting too much load on MediaPortal while TV and video are playing? If so, would it be a good idea to have a script which automatically disables web access while TV and Video playback/recording are in progress - or would that disrupt essential core services to video playback and TV recording ?

Have you got a network problem, as infoservice has no effect here, notice your system specs show you are using MP in singleseat mode, might be worthwhile using the MSLoopback adapter (link in Tony's post)

Thanks Ray, but I have no network problem as far as I know, other than that I am in a rural non-cabled area and bandwidth isn't fabulous. In order to make the best of what I have, the HTPC is plugged into the router with a cable. My other computers (notebook and desktop) work wirelessly and manage most of the time ok. So I don't think it is that.

I do wonder if my virus protection (Norton) is putting extra load on things though. High fan speeds suggest the HTPC is doing a lot of work, and it is a fairly powerful machine.

Take it you are using Intel QuickSync as video acceleration in LAV video settings, any better if you change to dxva or dxva copyback.

Norton used to be a real resource hog, meant to be a lot better, but make sure it is set not to scan important folders, ie Recording\Timeshifting, if it has the ability of being able to temporarily disable itself, does that make any difference.

One of the first things I did was to exclude C:\Program Files (x86)\Team MediaPortal and C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal from scans, autoprotect etc. I am not sure how to change LAV video settings. Clicking on Programs: LAV Video Configuration brings up nothing whatsoever. I also have Cyberlink and ffdshow codecs available. Do you think switching to either of these would improve performance without loss of quality?

PowerDVD is renowned for using less cpu than other codecs, but worth a shot, take it you are using SAF6 if you cannot see any LAV settings from the Start menu, are you using ffdshow for anything.

If not, then I suggest you uninstall SAF, reboot, then run filmerit to check there are no filter problems, then install LAV filters from the MP desktop extensions installer, now you can go into LAV video setting and enable Intel QuickSync.

Thank you Ray. I will try the above and fine tune things. The good news is that the stutter does not seem to have reoccurred since InfoService was disabled. It is odd that this seems to be the cause. Maybe having the option to turn off internet traffic while video and TV recording/play are in progress would be useful to people with similar problems that I had.
