    Hi,

I was trying to record Formula 1 here in NZ at Silverstone, but due to the bad weather the qualifying over ran. Since I was recording and not watching I lost the final section of qualifying and was a bit miffed :) It got me thinking as I'm not sure Sky would actually extend their coverage anyhow but I was wondering whether TVE3 is capable of extending a record time if the program goes beyond its original finish time, assuming that the channel EPG was updated to or updated program information was transmitted in the stream?

Any answers would be cool :)

    Cheers,

    Chris

I often have this problem too. I was previously updating the EPG while timeshifting to try and always have the latest data, but found that caused a lot of recordings to be flagged as "Manual" when the EPG changed after the recording was scheduled.

The freeview tvs and pvrs here are smart enough to be able to handle when a recording over-runs its schedule and adjust the recording time. I can't understand why something so primitive as a TV can outperform mediaportal in this aspect :)

As you said, the updated EPG data is in the stream, so mediaportal just needs to respect that change when a recording is in progress. Obviously, I don't know anything about the internal operation of mediaportal's recordings to know if this is feasible, but I would hope that it catches up to the current standards set by hunks of plastic like tvs and pvrs. :D

Yes this has been something i've wanted to fix for a while. In general a channel will update their "now and next" EPG data when a programme overruns. MP really needs to listen to this data for any change in the end time and adjust the recording appropriately.

The problem is it's quite difficult to test as I'm not sure how frequently it happens. I'll try and look at it when i've a bit more free time if no one else does.
