Two recordings for each scheduled recording (1 Viewer)

Hi.

I have MP 0.2.04 working great for me except for one minor glitch. Whenever a scheduled recording is finished it shows up as two entries in My Recordings. One entry is 0:00 length and the other is whatever it should be. If I just delete the 0 second recording all is fine.

I am using a Hauppage HVR-1300 for receiving DVB-T to do the recording.

As I said, it is a minor issue, but I would like to know if anyone else has seen this behavior? Does anyone have any suggestions of how to fix it?

I have this problem since a long time, and I sometime get rid of it but I could never understand what caused this to appears/disappears...

Not sure if this is the same problem or not, but for quite awhile until recently, I would often (not always) get two copies of my TV recordings. One entry was the normal "right" one, and the other was named the unparsed DVR-MS filename of the recording. Choosing either one would play the video, deleting either one would cause the other to do nothing when selected, but still appear in the list until I deleted it manually. This was quite a puzzle to me for some time, and I couldn't find anyone else on the forums having the same problem, so I just put up with it and grumbled under my breath while paging through all the extra fluff.

I have a Hauppage PVR-500MCE dual tuner card and a hard drive partition set aside specifically for TV recordings. In settings I was specifying that both tuners save recordings to the root of this partition, and finally found that the solution to the problem was to add "Card1" and "Card2" to that path, respectively. I could've sworn that older versions of MP used to take care of that part for me, but now it seems I need to specify it. Now all is well, and I have the satisfaction of figuring it out ALL BY MYSELF!

I have only seen this sympton when a scheduled recording is envoked while the channel is being watched or the TV is forced to switch to the channel specific to te tuner being used for recording and watching.

The time shifing is then swithced on giving both the recorded file and a second file .

This doesn't happen when the Tv in MyTV is off or you have multiple tuners and the tuner active is not the tuner being recorded from.

Also make sure if using dual tuners, that once the stations are tuned in for each card that you combine them, if not they try and do the same thing, hence 2 files.

Make sure priorities are different values.

On certain recordings I get up to 5 files between 0 and 3 sec before the actual show. On my system this happens when MP starts up for the recording, not when watching TV already.

I only use one TV card in MP at the moment so it can't be a conflict between cards.

I'll try to see under what conditions this problems happens.

BTW: I'm still using 0.2.0.3

The problem you discribe is due to the fact that the 2 tuners of the MCE500 are pointing to the same directory for recording.

So when a recording is saved to this location by tuner1, the recorded program is seen as a recorded program by tuner2.

One is showing the parsed name and the other the raw filename.

To get rid of this behaviour is to let each of the tuners save there recordings to a different path.

Tuner1 : c:\recodings\tuner1
Tuner2 : c:\recodings\tuner2

The problem will disappear.

I've seen this behaviour too... but now it's fixed (don't know what fixed it, SVN or playing with record X min before / after or PowerScheduler wake up X min before / suspend after X min after.

atm I have the following :


PowerScheduler : wakup 1 min before / suspend (without forcing) 3 minutes after idle

I start recording 3 minutes before and 8 minutes after the show begins / end.

Just try these values please.

I do appreciate your help, and you're absolutely right, but I had already fixed it and was just offering it up as a possible solution to the problem the original poster was having. Upon rereading my post: at first it does sound a bit like I'm currently experiencing trouble, but in the second paragraph I said:

Granted, I didn't necessarily explain it very well, but the solution was exactly as you say.

Also, if I remember correctly, when I first started using MP, I would swear that I simply told it to save to my partition, and it would create a "Card#" folder for both tuners and automagically save to the proper one. Nowadays the behavior seems to have changed, in that it seems to know to create the folders (even if I deleted them, they would come back -- which is how I eventually figured out that I must still need them), but isn't smart enough to use them without the user specifically telling it to.
