a twin processor such as a athlon X2, or Pentium D, would be your starting point.
Would you be outputting to monitor/monitor or monitor/tv, either way you will need a very good graphics cards to do it smoothly.
I think a little more info on your idea would be nice. ie the other app, would it have any directx usage as in games\video work etc.

    Hi

I'm looking to output media portal to a tv, probably out through a dvi out ,and also run silverjuke jukebox program out to a vga touchscreen monitor.
The jukebox program can run in kiosk mode hence fullscreen to the touchscreen. The silverjuke program is fairly small and doesn't mention whether it needs directx or not.

Apart from the touchscreen I've not gone out and bought any pc parts yet.. Maybe the whole thing is a pipe dream...

you dont nees a dual core processor to do that.
any old card made in the last year or two will be DX9c complient.
I like the way nVidia drivers handle dual monitors.
    I use the DualView Function.
Regular desktop on one screen, and nothing on the other except my desktop background.
Then I can drag whatever app I want over to it.
I urn my desktop as usual and have MP fullscreen on my TV through s-video out.

    Hi eric.c.mi ,

can you run two full screen apps without issues on your nVidia dualview function ? I don't plan to use a regular desktop on the other screen you see.. Just wondering...

ok for what you want, you do not need a dual processor.
silverjuke program does use directx as in the sound, Will the sound output to both screens sound systems I do not know (TV and music at same time), hopefully this may not be a issue. The only way of finding out is to try it.
And nvidia cards are not that expensive that fully support DX9.
Also a consideration is Futureproofing, hence i got the 6600 as HDTV supported onboard, but thats upto you.

all you need to do is connect both monitors, then right click on your desktop, go to the settings tab, in there you should now see 2 screens labelled 1 and 2, click the greyed our one (probably 2) then tick the 'Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor' check box.

    Hey,

What ipanter is talking about is called extended desktop and its built into all windows OS's as far back as 98 (just to clue you in on processor requirements). You can add as many screens as you have video outputs. The most i ever put was thee because 3 17" CRTs take up A LOT of desk space. The only thing i wasn't able to configure was that maximized screens tended towards the primary screen. I'm using it myself and i'm hoping that a maximized MP on one screen dedicated to it won't hinder another app i want to use on a second dedicated screen due to the aforementioned problem.

    I have this problem

I have a panasonic PV500 42" plasma (Res 1024x768) and one Panasoniv LCD 27" (res 1366x768). My problem is that i want to have different res. on each screen. When i try to do this the original desktop stays on the plasma and the desktop on my lcd have no taskbar etc. I want to be able to watch mediaportal on my plasma for exampel at the evening and when i wake up in the morning, i want to turn on my lcd in the bedroom and watch mediaportal there (plasma vga, lcd DVI)

Is there anybody out there that have the same problem or has a soulution for my problem. pleas help me.
