guys I'm a bit lost with my music and getting my views right.

I currently have my mp3's stored on my server in the following way artist\album\track. Each album folder has album cover and mp3 play-list file plus all the tracks. The tracks contain just the name the track number is stored in mp3 tags only. The view which shows them up in mp as they would like is shares and groups them properly. However this does not show me cover-art but rather a generic image. If I change the view to say album-artist they show up fine. As they do with other views. Problem is when I have Album-artist view selected mp interpreters wrongly group of tracks. One of the issue is that if an artist has a song in a compilation album it decide to group that album and it's respective song with the artist rather than leaving compilation album on it own.. E.g.

I have 2 ah-ha albums they would be in the right place but it then it also adds an 80's album + cover. Linking in the the one ah-ha track for that album. I would rather that compilations albums came under the banner various artist.

I have looked at other post can not find out if either share view can show the album cover or if I can modify one of the other views to have the music group correctly but with the album artwork.

Any ideas would be much appreciated:D

Regarding the multi-artist albums..... When I tag my songs I use two different tags "Album-Artist" and "Artist", which I would tag as "Various Artists" and "ah-ha" respectively.

Thanks for your reply. I have all my tags setup fine I feel and have another jukebox program I use which configures them correctly. I'm just wondering really is there any way that in the shares view I can get it show album art for the folder or do I have to put up with the generic image that meadia portal uses.

Shares-View is like viewing your files on the hard-drive....it does not cater for "Tags" or "Album-Art", that's why you import the songs into the MediaPortal database.

I assumed this was since once I go beyond the first screen I do get all tag and album art when selecting track. All my tag and album art information is already in MP. If this is not possible is there away to get MP to produce a list of my albums where all the various albums are linked together. With out me changing my tags if I have to do this then. I will probably leave as is.

There is no way I know of other than the following:

    1) Tag your songs as described in my first post...
    and then
    2) Select "Treat files in same folder as album" under the import options in the MP-Config application.

    yes, above is correct.
Multo-Artist albums should be tagged with AlbumArtist.

If you do't do that and have only the "Treat files in same folder as album" option checked, they will appear as "Various Artist" in the AlbumArtist view

If you want to stick with shares view, then place a folder.jpg into each folder and you will see that picture come up in the music browser.
