Motherboard: MSI MEGA mPC
Motherboard Chipset: VIA

MPEG2 Video Codec: MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Video Encoder
MPEG2 Audio Codec: MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG AudioEncoder

Hey all, in need of some help.

I have spent the past 2 days trying to get MediaPortal working on my HTPC and have failed. The problem is when I go to add my TVTuner card in the MP Configurator I get an error stating "Unable to create graph for this device!!"

Here is the (one) procedure on the way I went about my install.

  1. Clean install of WinXPSP2
  2. Installed all up to date drivers from vendors
  3. Installed all WinXP updates (up to today)
  4. Installed Hauppauge WinTV software (to get MainConcept encoders installed)
  5. Downloaded SoftMCE_Encoder_Setup_1_2_24159 for MCEESMPEG.AX
  6. Extracted all files from SoftMCE_Encoder_Setup_1_2_24159 to a Windows dir: regsvr32 MCEESMPEG.AX
  7. Installed CCCP for codecs
  8. Installed MediaPortal

Now, the thing that concerns me is in my config log file I keep seeing:

Code:
2008-01-31 11:24:48.468750 [Info.][Config Main]: Exception :Value does not fall within the expected range.

Also in the config log (before the above line) i see:

Code:
2008-01-31 11:24:48.421875 [Info.][Config Main]: filter mux='MainConcept (MCE) MPEG Encoder' check:False

I hope that sombody can help as I really want to use this software. I can post up a debug or any log files needed. I have tried several other attempts at getting this working.

As a side note the tuner/recorder does work with the WinTV software so it is not a hardware issue.

hi there,

i wanned to try mediaportal with my analog hauppauge, before buying a good but expensive card
but unfortunately it didnt ... work just like yours.
XP pro is newly installed, all new drivers, and the card works perfect with wintv2000 or intervideo windvr3!
i just cant believe that such an old card should not be properly working in mp.
maybe someone has an idea, since i actually like the rest of the mediaportal version wich is working good.
my config log shows the same exception as above.
i was experimenting a bit with graphedit, but i actually dont know what i was doing there and what it is good for?!

hope some of your more experienced mp user can help out quickly

cheers mike

I should have posted this the day I got my card working...which was a few days after this post.

I ended up doing a clean install of WinXP Pro. Installed the Hauppage drivers from my CD (the drivers that came with my ~3yr old card...this is when I bought it). Installed ALL WinXP updates including .Net Framework 3.

Before installing MediaPortal I installed the MCE drivers as described on this site (copying the .ax file and all files in the folder, etc). I then installed MediaPortal and ran into another issue....

TV would not work. I found out that my video card was no DirectX 9 compat. I put in my old GeForce2 MX400 card and media portal worked just fine....well....almost...The TV is crazy choppy and unwatchable...I will soon be posting about this issue as I can not find a solution to my problem on the forums or the web.
