Ok ... it did not tell us as much as i was hoping.

wmppia.dll is part of a mediaplayer. Could you do the following procedure.

Download a full windows medipalayer 9 to some folder.
    Log in as a administrator
    Uninstall Mediaplayer
    Reboot
    Log in as a administrator
    Install Just downloaded mediaplayer 9
    reboot
    Log in as a administrator
    Install mediaportal doupleclik setup.exe

I'm logged in as an admin.
I can't uninstall Mediaportal as I've never been able to get it to install.
I have already tried reinstalling Windows Media Player 9. It is installed and functional.

    error 2908

I think I found a solution to this problem
I was having the same thing happen to me after uninstalling Media Portal and attempting to reinstall to fix some epg issues. I tried everything currently listed in the forum as possible solutions and nothing helped. After some searching I found a number of articles on the issue with other apps. One of them recomending renaming mscoree.dll in %windir%\system32\ then reinstalling .net and then try to reinstall the app.

It worked for me and Media Portal installed error free after that.

    Hope this helps others

With all due respect, you do realize that MP is now at version .2? Is that the version you were trying to install?

    Version

Yes it is the version I was trying to install.
Installed fine originally and as soon as I uninstalled to put in a fresh install I got the error and could not correct it until the fix I mentioned.

I posted the fix that worked for me even though it's a different version then others on this thread because I assumed since there was no resolution that I could find in the forums that perhaps it was ongoing.

Although it's entirely possible that I was the only one lucky enough to run into that reinstalling with the present version lol

    Darwin is totally right,

This error is related to problems .NET framework generally.
I have bumped same dll renamig tip later. Good to know it actually worked for someone, i have tried it couple of times with other software using .NET without success.

Worked for me too! I renamed the mscoree.dll - file, repaired the 2.0 framework and then rebooted. Now I get the "repair MediaPortal" option in the installer, used that and.... MediaPortal came up and running!

    0.2 RC3

I'm trying to upgrade from 0.2RC2 CVS to 0.2RC3. I un-installed and removed all of rc2, but when installing rc3 i get the "error 2908" at the very end of the install. Clicking Ok just keeps giving the same error and I have to kill setup.exe

I tried removing that .net file and repairing .net but that didn't help. Also completely removed .net and reinstalled but that didn't help either :-/

    Any other ideas? Thanks.

Run services.msc and make sure that all neccesary services are enabled, try to enable them all before installing. Run msconfig and also make sure that all services are set to start with windows.
