For some unknown reason all of my videos have stopped playing :)

They just don't appear on the screen.

Error: 2008-04-25 07:33:54.845174 [ERROR][MPMain]: PlaylistPlayer: *** unable to play - H:\Movies\xyz.avi - skipping track!

This appears to be intermittent as this video did actually play during one of the tests. I tried it again without changing any config and it failed!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MP and all of my codecs.

All of my videos play in VLC. I was tempted to use VLC as external player but could not get it running in full screen.

I have not been able to supply the system & setup info for support - is there an easy way to generate this?

I have run the Debug Tool - Logs attached.

Hope someone can help - MP was my perfect solution until this happened.

Weird - I've just experienced exactly the same problem. I've been running MP for around a year, and just this morning my PC crashed, rebooted and couldn't play any video files. Ran MP in window mode and the same issue

Tried VLC under both fullscreen and window mode with no issues.

Run the debug tool and get the same results as you have

2008-04-25 17:14:43.031250 [ERROR][MPMain]: VideoPlayer9: Failed to render file -> vmr9
2008-04-25 17:14:43.625000 [ERROR][MPMain]: PlaylistPlayer: *** unable to play - C:\IWGP - 01.avi - skipping track!

I've uninstalled/reinstalled all my codecs, tried different ones all to no avail. Just googled that error type, and all I could find was this thread https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/weird-error-mkv-file-38635/ but didn't get much from that.

Hmm, got it working after I uninstalled all of my codecs and installed the latest version of the CCCP codec pack.

Maybe try that.

Fixed

Found an error relating to Direct X exclusive mode not being available.

Reset the Graphics card settings back to defaults and everything is working again.

Hi,

Having exactly the same problem in Vista.

wzrw47, what exactly did you mean by 'resetting graphics card settings'? Do you mean say, back to defaults in Nvidia Control Panel (or ATI), or somewhere else.

Cheers

There is a Restore Factory Defaults option in ATI catalyst.

I guess reinstalling the graphics card drivers and software might have the same effect.

I'm getting this exact same problem. MP has been working fine. Then today no video will play. I'm running RC1 under WinXp sp3. My system is a gigabyte 780g board with onboard video. I've tried cat 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 drivers. ie reinstalling the video driver did not help. My logged error messages are the same as listed by kb10000 in this thread.

Dexx,

As per my post, I fixed it by installing the then latest cccp pack. I would first try changing the codec you are using. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling all your codecs and install one at a time, testing before uninstalling and moving to the next codec.

For your reference, I was running XPSP2 with an nvidia card.

Guys if you have codec issues, run filmerit and fix any errors shown, as sometimes just reinstalling only hides problems till the next time it fails.

Filmerit didnt reveal any issues for me. Reinstalling codecs and MP didnt help. However, reinstalling Windows Media Player fixed my issue. This was strange because the media played fine in WMP standalone, just not from within MP.

    Hi,

I have had video playback issues on 2 clients as well, not sure if all related to this issue though.

After going to RC2 (missed the last 2 weeklys) from RC1, I found that playing videos caused the dissapearing of relevent GUI (progress bar, info etc) but instead left a flickering top and bottom of blue skin parts from the previous window. Video appears black with audio.

On both machines, I found turning off exclusive mode fixed the issue, but the tearing is unbearable.

Fixed on an ATI/AMD based machine by installing full ATI package. Still refuses to play some xvid sometimes, not checked the logs yet.

VIA S3 onboard Jetway mini itx machine only works now by disabling exclusive mode. All videos do seem to play on this one now though, and tearing was there anyway so no biggie.

On 2 separate machines, the same issues after installing RC2. Could be a clue, or maybe I am unlucky.

Both machines were fine before installing (fresh) RC2.

My server (Nvidia, pentium D) with single seat setup has no isssues with any video playback.

All are same Windows XP Pro with all updates.

    Thanks,
    Chris
