Hey all, I have just installed moving pictures and loaded my movies from hdd in configuaration, but I am having trouble playing some movies that i have ripped. I get an error saying:" unable to play movie: messengers 2.avi...video codec: xvid audio codec: mp3". Is MP not able to play these files?

:D

Media portal/Moving Pictures doesn't decide what will play, the codecs installed on your machine and configured in media portal's video player will allow you to play stuff.

I suggest getting them to play in windows media player first. Use graphedit to tell you exactly what's wrong.

I do not know what the problem is, but out of curiosity:
I saw some other reports here (a while back) with the same problem but only happening occasionally.
Is your problem happening ALL THE TIME with same file?
    To test:
    1. take note of one of the movies that does not work.
    2. close MediaPortal
    3. Restart MediaPortal
    4. Play same movie

has anyone found a solution for this.
I am suddenly getting this can't play error
Xvid and MP3 codec. I have tried playing the same file in Media Player with no problem
Mediaportal no go. This has started on all my htpc's now that I upgraded to 1.0.2.
I wiped one device clean and reinstalled xp and mp...no go
Everyone the same. 3 down and man am I annoyed.
I have been trying different options with on of the pc's but still no joy.

thoughts and suggestions would be apprecaited.

Well... first, you are reviving a dead thread... and second, you are posting about something that is MediaPortal related in the Moving Picture subforum. I am very sorry you are having issue and I wish I could help you but I think you will get better results in a MediaPortal dedicated subforum.
