I have the following setup:
OS: Windows 7 (final release)
TV Card: HDHOMErun
Mediaportal version: 1.1 Alpha
DB Server: MySQL 5.1

I have everything running in medaportal except the TV. Database starts successfully. TV service starts successfully. The 2 tuners in the Silicon HDHomerun on the network show up in the mediaportal TV Configurator. When I scan for QAM or non-qam channels, I get no signal (I have cable), no channels found. Media Center has no problems with receiving TV channels. I used the "Main TV Server" option when setting up the TV Server. OS requirements say I need both .net framework 2 & 3.5. However Windows 7 will not allow me to install .net framework 2.0 (says must use add/remove windows components in control panel and there is only an option for 3.5). Have scoured the forums but cannot seem to get a solution. I suspect it's something simple, but for the life of me I can't figure out what I'm missing. Any help is much appreciated. I really like MediaPortal.

I too am having this exact same problem. Pretty much exact same setup as OP. I see that this seems to be a problem from older posts with no real solution. Hdhomerun works perfect in its own app as well as windows media center. But with Mediaportal the scan of atsc channels comes up empty.

This is on a fresh install of Windows 7 32 bit RTM without anything else installed or tweaked except for hdhomerun software and I have tried both the latest version of mediaportal and the alpha version.

Is there any hope or should I just stick with Windows media center?

Thanks.

response from support at hdhomerun

Worked with support at silicondust makers of hdhomerun last night. They had me run a diagnostic scan that sends them the log files. First a scan of the tuners and then the channels in the hdhomerun setup utility. Everything worked perfectly. Then a scan of channels in mediaportal tvserver. Still got no channels. Here is the response I received from silicondust after looking at the logs...

The logs show MediaPortal tuning channel 2 and nothing else. It is communicating with the HDHomeRun, just not actually trying to scan all 68 channels. The fact that it works in WMC confirms that there is some problem with MediaPortal. Unfortunately the vast majority of MP's developers are located in countries that don't use ATSC, so support for ATSC is fairly limited. We recommend using another PVR program.

Silicondust Support

I have been using Media Portal for 3 to 4 years now but have never had any real success with the TV part of the program. The rest of it is great. TV not so much. Any ideas from anyone on how to fix the above problem? I will be installing and trying sagetv and beyondtv tonight to handle my tv needs for now, although I would much rather have mediaportal working.

Thanks!

We recommend using another PVR program.

    Silicondust Support

I would recommend using another HW, or moving to some nice country in Europe :p It is a shame that such response was received from the company side, would have been mych nicer if they could have donated few developer hours to provide a patch so their HW would work with an open source program.

But the truth is that there is no single developer currently who would be using ATSC as tv source so the changes are pretty low in getting some patches done.

My solution for the time being...

I've decided to put a link in the "programs" plugin in mediaportal to media center. I removed all other Start Menu strips in media center so only the TV strip remains. Launch from mediaportal and I can do everthing I need to do via mediacenter (for TV). Not ideal, but not bad. Would obviously prefer using the mediaportal tv server, but have spent to much time already trying to get it to work.

Well I did a clean install of vista 32bit ultimate and got the tv server 1.1 beta working with hdhomerun. Must be a windows 7 issue.

Has anyone logged this as a bug for MP 1.1? It may well be an issue with Windows 7, but I get the exact same results with an ATI HDTV wonder (QAM Card)...
