Hi,

why is it not possible to get this channel:

Astra 19.2 E, 11.406 V, SR 22000, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2 – 8PSK

?

Is it not possible to scan/tune a 4k channel (H.265) with a DD Cine S2 6.5 or is it a hard coded filter in the TV Server, which do not handle those channels?

Best regards,
Sascha

    Hello Sascha

why is it not possible to get this channel...?
Probably the h.265 part. AFAIK DVB has not standardised use of h.265 so TsWriter (and any other DVB compliant software) probably won't recognise it... but that is complete speculation without log files.

Today I updated transponder list and now it worked. Don't know why.

But MediaPortal was unable to show this channel: Timeshift could not be started.

    From TsWriter:

Note "hasVideo: 0"... so the video stream is not detected as suspected.
Sorry, HEVC won't work until the MPEG and DVB standards receive updates, and we find the time to implement those updates.

    Thanks, I see.

But wouldn't it be usefull to use this channel to implement those new things? Because that's the reason why Astra and Eutelsat offering those channels. STB manufacturs like Humax also using those channels for testing and the first 4k / UHD set top boxes are nearly ready for market, so the standard is maybe already finished?

STB manufacturers can get preliminary specs updates before those are officially released (and thus subject to change).
I don't think it makes sense to implement it before official specs are released - how should we do it without specs? And there are anyway only 2 demo channels available.

As I know there is nothing which will be changed. So it is good to use those free demo channels to get it work for the future. As said, these demo channels are for developers to implement the new technology. When those channels go offline, it would be much harder, because 4k will be only available as PayTV in the next couple of years.

I can't find any information in the internet that there will be a new standard. It's DBV-S2, 2160p/60 and H.265 encoded. It's up to the software / chipsets (stb) to support this.

I only found an optional extension (which is standardised since a few month) called DVB-S2X:

    https://www.dvb.org/standards/dvb-s2x

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-S2X

DVBViewer also still supports those channels. It was just a small change. So maybe it is also just a new if or case condition in your code? You just need to identify and pass through the video/audio. H.265 is supported by LAV and PowerDVD.

you can watch this with newest hardware anyway - even HDMI1.4 spec supports 2160p/30 only, and newest HDMI 2.0 standard is only 2 months old.

But i also have a feeling that receiving side has to be changed only slightly - maybe just add some new packet types to be recognized as video...

Yes, I confirm it is only a small change... but I won't be making that change until (1) standards are finalised and (2) while TV Server is in code freeze.
Sascha, you're going to have to be patient or implement the required changes yourself.

for those who wants to test (i mean @Sebastiii at first) - look at this patch - i hope this is enough to get uhd channels to work :)

P.S. updated patch file to log HEVC video correctly
