Hi guys,

I just updated to media player 2 and lost all my videos and settings from before.
I tried to reload the movies but it now does not see them in their files.

I run windows 7 home premium on a asus pc.
I have run media player 1 for about a year now with no real problems.
i use a NAS to store my movies on

I am pulling my hair out so any help would be appreciated

    Hi streety,

I just updated to media player 2 and lost all my videos and settings from before.
I guess you meant MediaPortal 2, didn't you?

MP2 does not use the same settings and database as MP1.
You can say that MP2 is a totally different product. It does not do anything with your MP1 settings. If you start MP1 everything should be back as usual.
When you start MP2 you have to configure the directories where your files are located and after the initial import these will be visible. A few infos about MP2 configuration should be already here in forums and within the wiki: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/2_MEDIAPORTAL_2/MediaPortal_2_Alpha_Release

    Hi, Thanks for your reply!!

I uninstalled Media Portal (sorry) and I have now loaded my vids on. so thats all good now
But, I now cannot open the viewer, when I click the media portal it only takes me to the config screen. I have tried it from the start menu and the short cut. I am really getting frustrated with it. I have read some of the faq and info threads but cannot see anything that helps me

You should have 2 shortcuts. One for client and one for server. Starting the client will show you the user interface (GUI).

Don't get me wrong, but a suggestion for the future: before trying alphas or beta software which you don't know, it might be helpful to read some docs or the information provide with the release announcement.

If you don't have both shortcuts (server and client) reinstall mp2 and select singleseat. If you still have problems to find everything pls provide screenshots of the windows and places where you are lost.

    thanks for the reply....

I tried it again tonight and it works perectly, NFI why.. But its all good now

I am not a big fan of the menu so I'll have a read to see how to change it.
my 3 year olds could work out the old one but the new one where you have to select plugins - movies and then pick your movie is a little annoying.

Anyway Thanks for the quick responses

It's definetely not ready for daily use, yet.
Nevertheless we are happy about any constructive feedback, postive or negative.
Check also the alpha release thread for feedback, which we already got and maybe for some tips and explanation why somethings is different compared to MP1.

Additionally you might be able to test a new build within the nest weeks. We are preparing it currently.

Have fun while bug hunting :p
