Interesting, do you have the Gigabyte 780G board (MA78GM-S2H)? Can you tell me what BIOS you use? Maybe I should try reverting to the Catalyst 8.8 drivers from the Gigabyte site?
I have the Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H and there has been no BIOS release yet other than the stock one (F1). I can't say yet if the issue I have with 1080i channels now (with HA) is due to the Catalyst update or maybe the MediaPortal update.

I can confirm i have DXVA working nicely with this motherboard. I'm not using a phenom, so i'm using BOB deinterlacing - little jumpy on the static images but acceptable untill i get my HT 3.0 cpu. DVXA is enabled for all my SD/HD TV channels (for both Vista Ultimate 32 + 64bit.. i recently installed 64-bit but before it was working also). My complete configuration can be found in the link of my signature. I still need to upgrade to catalyst 8.10 but i'm a murphy fan so we'll see about that... ("if it ain't broken don't fix it").

What had me puzzled for a while when i didn't had DXVA on for MPEG2 (only for H.264) was that Discovery HD wasn't accelerated. Turns out (in my area) Discovery HD was broadcast in 1080i MPEG2, enabling DXVA for MPEG2 ofcourse turned it on again.

Thanks for confirming the board- what MP and catalyst version did you have DXVA working on previously? I have interlaced TV working with Cyberlink codecs on 8.10 but not with DXVA.

DXVA works now too, but only for progressive channels. I haven't looked into the issue yet. Before I had Catalyst 8.8 I believe and MP RC1 with SVN version 190..somthing ;)

    Hi,

First of all, great work that jo16v have done compiling all the info about ppl you get DVXA with 780G
    :)

Second, i am still have some questions ....

Consider the case where i choose 780G on Vista+MediaPortal, AT THE MOMENT is possible to get this features on MyTV, MyDVD and MyVideos ?

    - MPEG2 Hardware Decode ( DVDRip )
    - MPEG4 Hardware Decode ( HDTV, 780p, 1080p )

I know that MPEG2 is easy ( even Software Decode ), my MPEG4 issue is with subtitles problem ... HDTV rips come in .avi containers so to use subtitles i have to read them from a .srt file, if i enable DVXA on HDTV rips i will lose my subtitles right ?

On HD rips ( 780p, 1080p ) the container is .mkv who supports internal subtitles, so i guess that i can use DVXA and still get the internal subtitles, i only lose the external subtitles like .srt files, right ?

Last question is about MediaPortal configuration, it is possible to configure the system to use DVXA in all video modules ( TV, DVD, Videos ) in a way that if for exempla the 720p rip have wrong encode profile the system automatically uses software decode ( CoreAVC by example ) ?

    Best Regards,

I have no experiences with subtitles, but I think it´s all the same if the sub is in the container or comes from a separate .srt file. Both of them must be added as postprocessing, so it can break DXVA.

btw I could playback Bluray 1080i h.264 24p with subtitles with PDVD, with DXVA. So my theory is valid only for MP maybe.

Thanks- sorry I can't answer your questions as I have not been able to use DXVA on MP at all and I don't really use subtitles. :( I know that supposedly the latest stable version of MPC-HC h.264 decoder would supposedly not work if DirectVobSub/VSFilter was activated but this may have changed with new releases (see discussions here - 227 pages long!).

I have found some mention of registry settings which I think are possibly connected to using DXVA for Cyberlink codecs in MediaPortal in a german thread- could anyone translate (technically and linguistically) what is being said in this and the following posts?

Check this post out for the nightmare of DXVA...

you guys probably have too many codec packs
Do a clean install with only PDVD8 and the codecs that are bundled with MediaPortal
Any other file can be played back using internal filters of MPC-HC X86 version
Any filter that comes between PDVD8 and the renderer will disable DXA

Hardware acceleration didn't work for me in MP with PDVD8U codecs before I even tried any codec packs (SAF/Vista codec pack) so I don't think that can be the problem in my case.

I have now discovered that even my PowerDVD8U stand alone programme will only accelerate AVC and not h.264 so this was not a specifically MP problem as I thought. DXVA still won't work for me in MP for AVC but it does work in DVBviewer using the PDVD8U decoder. MPC-HC will accelerate h.264 files but AVC files don't work properly. :mad:Can you explain how to get MP to load MPC-HC as an external player as I tried to just link the .exe but MPC-HC crashes? Can I get it to just load h.264 .mov and .wmv files and not AVC encoded files (.ts recordings)?

Could someone also check out this posting on the registry settings in the german forum and explain what it means?:D
