MediaPortal Version: 0.2.1.0

Hi

I just installed MediaPortal and would like to use it instead of BeyondMedia.

My question is: How can I use my Firefly remote to control and open MP?

I have followed the instructions here:
https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=8480&highlight=Firefly+profile#10

But when I press my Firefly button it still opens BeyondMedia.

Can someone PLEASE help me use my Firefly remote successfully with MediaPortal!

Thanks

    Hi shogun,

    Today is your lucky day. If you install today's (11/26/06) SVN (which may not have been released yet) native firefly support has been added. Make sure the Beyond Media software is not running. I'm still working out some bugs so that you'll be able to customize the remote more easily, but as of right now, its pretty functional. You won't be able to open MP from the firefly button unless it is already running. Let me know if you have any problems.

    P.S. If it doesn't work, find the x10net.dll on your system. Open a command window in that directory and type regsvr32 x10net.dll

    Probably a stupid question. But what is SVN and where can I get it? :)

    Thank you

    Actually, not a bad question. There is a link to the SVN builds on the MediaPortal homepage (top right of the screen). Smarter people than I have defined SVN on wikipedia if you are wondering what it is.

    Now for my question.

    I had been using the custom profile with my Firefly, and decided to try out the built-in. I noticed that it did not have the maximize button configured to toggle fullscreen, and I wanted to assign functionality to the ABCD keys, so I went in to the customization screen. There were a lot of entries in there (far more than the number of buttons I could count), and I couldn't find anything that looked related to the "maximize" button. I decided to just switch back to the custom mapping I had (not great, but works). So, what's the deal with the built-in Firefly support? Is it still a work in progress, or is this what it is supposed to look like?

    It did work fine in general, just the customization part looked a little raw. I can help too, if it is wanted/needed. Thanks.

    Hi Marshall,

    It is a bit raw, however I don't to a whole lot with MP, so it served my purposes. If you have a customized profile that works, it is better than the "native" support. I just added an option and a profile that would get everyone off of the ground. If you feel yours is a profile that everyone could use, feel free to submit your general profile as a patch. It is difficult to configure the firefly without the native support, unless you hunt around for what numbers correspond to what button. I'll be fixing that, but I don't have the time to do it right now.

    If i remember rightly you have to edit the global.xml file in

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Firefly\Profiles

    Find the bit that relates to the firefly button and change it to
    Code:
    <Actions Button="Firefly" Description="Mediaportal">
        <LaunchAction ActivationState="Down" Program="c:\program files\Team Mediaportal\Mediaportal\Mediaportal.exe" Arguments="" Description="Mediaportal" />
        <PlaySoundAction ActivationState="Down" Sound="Select" />
      </Actions>
