Using the pcHDTV HD-3000 card in Media Portal (1 Viewer)

Awesome work Paul. I'm sure Dman will update the capturecarddefinitions.xml file to reflect your changes.

I'm having the best luck with channel changing, recording, and timeshifting using the nVidia PureVideo Video Decoder and the FFDshow audio decoder (which just sends everythign to S/PDIF).

Setting up the guide can be a little tricky, because zap2it names don't often match the channel names you get from autotuning. You can use xmltv and zap2it, but as I mentioned before, bradsjm has developed a plug-in that should alleviate much of the (if not all) problems with that.

I'm more than familiar with this thru MythTV. I worked around it by copying the XMLTVID number from the zap2it channels over to the real channels. Don't know if there is a way to do that manually in MP.

I downloaded a plugin called "XMLTVmapper", it seems to to the job. Probably the same thing that I had to manually do in Linux. There still seems to be one or two false channels, and Media Portal gets hung up on these. I'll just have to identify them and remove them.

Tried a scheduled recording today. It was not a HD show, but it seems to have worked okay.

I'm also using the nVidia PureVideo decoder. This box isn't hooked to my surround sound system. My other box has a Turtle Beach Montego sound card with optical outputs. That is hooked to my 5.1 system.

I installed the card and drivers on my winxp machine and created the directshow graph you showed in a previous post in this thread.

I must confess I have not installed mediaportal yet, so I did not have the "MediaPortal Stream Analyzer" filter in the graph, but everything else was on there. However, I would expect that I should be able to tune to a channel through graphedit even without mediaportal's filter.

Have you been able to play the directshow graph from within graphedit? I have not.

Every time I start the graph, it will result in a problem. If I do not change the properties in the second tab of the "Microsoft ATSC Network Provider" filter, the machine will reboot as soon as I press play in graphedit. If I do change the settings to something other than the default ones (I really dont know what to put there) the machine does not reboot, but graphedit does crash. Can you help?

I have to confess.

I made some major changes to my PC, and I have not reinstalled MP yet. I've been using BTV 4, it works with the pcHDTV card.

I seem to recall that I was able to view a channel with GraphEdit. I guess it's time for me to reinstall MP so I can help you out.

Your system may be different, so some of the blocks on the graph would be different.

I'm at work right now, so I can't check anything.

I'll try GraphEdit first, before I install MP, and see what happens. It may take me a few days because I'm kinda busy, so be patient. In the mean time, it sounds like maybe the drivers are causing problems. Try uninstalling and reinstalling everything. Are you using the drivers off of the CD or the one's that I posted?

I dont think you need to reinstall MP though. You should be able to try this out on graphedit without MP, right?

I am actually interested in getting the card to work without any other software other than its drivers and the 3rd party mpeg2 audio/video decoders in Graphedit.

Okay, I ran GraphEdit on my current setup. The first time that I tried to view a channel, I got a black screen. The second time I got serveral VobSub errors and then the PC rebooted. Sound familiar?

There's a pic of my most recent graph attached to this post.

I currently have only Beyond TV4 and the nVidia PureVideo decoder installed. VobSub came up when I tried to play the TV in GraphEdit. It said that it is no longer supported, or something to that effect.

The good news is that the tuner still works in BTV4. You may have to use an application to watch anything from the card. You may want to check the ATSC tuner thread and ask for help there. Commodore 64 seems to know what's going on, he may be able to steer you in the direction you want to go.

I have a pchdtv installed on mp 0.2.2 and it identified the card but when I go to edit the options it says cannot graph device ... I get to the options but I dont see where I can scan for channels in the setup?

It sounds like you will have to tweak the config file for your card. That is what I had to do when I originally set up my card. There was an existing entry for the pcHDTV HD-3000, but my filters were named a little different.

Make a graph with the filters for your card and post a screen shot of it. Even better, when setting up the card (when you get the error message) run GraphEdit and connect to a remote graph. You may get the incomplete graph, post it. Also post the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file entry for your card. It may have been changed in this version of MP.

I noticed that in my CaptureCardDefinitions I have the card listed, but when I try to run the configuration program it doesnt locate the card, it is listed in my device manager and I installed it as listed in the pdf

That is why you need to run GraphEdit to help find what the problem is. If it can't find your card at all, it is usually the device ID. If it sees the card, but you get a "unable to create graph" error, there is a problem with the filters chosen, or with the pin connections.
