First of, as of last night I'd been running the latest versions of StreamedMP and PureVisionHD compatible with MP 1.2.1 and would switch from one to the other every couple of nights.

Last night, 18 Oct 2011, it was Streamed's turn. I configured the MP GUI and fired up MP1.2.1. Upon it starting I was met with the "Streamed Update available" notifier, so I attempted to run the upgrade from within MP. It hung. After 20-minutes or so, I checked the Task Manager and, sure enough, the Streamed install was non-responsive.

No problem: end the task, exit MP, download the 1.7.2 rev of SMP, install, and all will be well. Right?

Wrong.

The installation completed, I fired up MP and the screen continued to show my desktop, though MP was running. (The desktop icons were there, but not selectable since it seemed that MP was running "transparently.") Task Manager, end the MP application, reconfigure MP to start with PVHD. Same thing! Try with Default Wide. At least that works.

(When I change to windowed mode, I verified that MP starts, but never fully loads and shows a black window which "captures" whatever was behind it upon start-up: drag it, and the icons from the desktop that were under it follow along.)

OK, so then I uninstalled SMP (control panel) and re-installed it after I noticed a slew of errors in the error.log. Same thing with both GUIs--Default Wide works, still.

Do I now proceed with repairing MP, or do I remove both GUIs (Streamed and PureVision) and re-install those?

(full logs from last night attached along with an image of MP window dragged)

thanks in advance.

Did you try a reboot. Streamedmp has done this to me before on a couple of occasions and a reboot after installing fixes it.

Yes, I've tried re-booting. Currently I have uninstalled PVHD and SMP. (Also, I forgot to mention that aMPed skin works, as well as DW.)

Reading through the forums, I stumbled across the "fonts" issue with PVHD & SMP; however, I neither expected nor got positive results since I didn't have a "crashing MP" problem.

I'm thinking that a repair of MP is in order and avoiding SMP1.7.2 is my short-term solution.

it wasn't the htpcinfo plugin. here's what i found.

i uninstalled both skins and re-installed the latest versions of purevision hd and then streamedmp, and it resulted in the skins not loading properly (i.e., the transparent start-up). I then uninstalled both, installed streamed mp first and then purevision hd, and all is well.

go figure. hopefully if someone else runs into this issue, the order of skin installation will help him.

All righty then....installed 1.7.3 last night and the same thing happened. It seems that there are real issues with the last couple of SMP versions. I cannot continually uninstall all skins which I use, install the latest SMP, and then re-install the other skins just so that SMP doesn't eff-up the ability of most skins loading.

Hasn't anyone else had this issue?

    Hi,

I belive the issue is with the PVHD font set being older than the SMP set and this somehow causes the sort of issues you are seeing, though that said is not as black and white - Gfx cards, O/S version and Dx issues all play there part so this is extreamly difficult to pin down and most systems seem have no problems using this combination of skins.

We had over 11000 downloads of 1.7.1 and only 2 or 3 reports of this issue, on all my systems I cannot reproduce this error so is very difficult for us track and fix.

I will speak to catavolt about what font version he is using, it may help if we ensure we have the same.

Sorry to not be more postive, I will look at this again maybe able to identify the set of circumstances under which this issue happens.

    Thx

thanks. i understand that this is a rare occurrence, and it's really not that big a deal to un- and re-install in the proper order.
