Synopsis: Enter the details of your problem here
I have got MediaPortal working but its very gittery, gets even more gittery when I just move the mouse.
Checked the CPU and memory used and it seems very high.
CPU goes staright up to 100%, memory used ranges from 120MB to over 200MB.

Just running Win2000 CPU is about 27-30% and memory 36MB

Why is MediaPort so much more? Have I got something setup incorrectly. I have tried all the codecs, in all combinations; I have tried overlay, VMR9 (windowless and renderless). I realise that my graphics card is on the motherboard so I have tried a AGP graphics card and still the saem results.

Using '!' I get very variable results, refresh as low as 11fps up to as high as 24fps, jitter ranges from 7 to 80 -> these vary within a single setup, i.e. moving the mouse, go in and out of menu options and back to TV will change the ! values.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Dave

It sounds like you are experiencing this bug?

Does the CPU usage drop when you turn timeshifting ON?

You may need to apply the most recent CVS, as this bug was resolved November 2.

Yes, strangely it does - didn't actually believe my eyes when it dropped! Will follow your link and thanks for the quick reply.

    Great bit of kit!

    Hi,

you should also consider to spend your HTPC a good DirectX9 card. The integrated UniChrome graphics is not a good piece of hardware. ;)

Memory usage is normal. This is managed by .NET and cannot be influenced by MP. You can see this by just minimizing MP. Watch memory usage dropping to minimal.

    Fantastic!

Now running around 27 to 30% in full screen (42in plasma) and looks great - no jittering. Funny but when not in full screen, i.e. with the TV menu up, it runs at 65%, guess its got more work to do.

Initially had the default codes Mpeg2Dec Filter and Dscaler Audio Decoder and VRM9 but this didn't work, still 100% CPU but got TV OK

Notice that the Overlay option has gone and there is just VMR7 and 9.

Switched to InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge & Audio, but got no video.

Then switched to VMR7 and Cyberlink Video/SP decoder and Cyberlink Audio Decoder and it worked perfectly & with a low CPU use.

Tried to go back to VMR 9 but this time the video overlay did not fit in the right hand side box (in TV) but was about 2/3 larger. Covered up menu options on the left but managed to select full screen but the video overlay just stayed as it was, i.e. about 2/3 smaller than screen.

Back to VMR 7 and all well - no OSD though - doesn't matter - it works.

My aim is for the wife to believe in it (as will all my computing stuff - there is always a little problem - that and of course the "all those wires"!!!) but I'm getting there. Hopefully will soon be able to get rid of the 'other' TV stuff

    Thanks again

    Hi Flip,

Yea I know but I'm trying to keep things to a minimum, just M/B and TV card.

Anyway it does seem to be working ok for me.

    Thanks again
    Dave :D

    Hi,

    nice it gets better! :)

Again, most of your overlay, VMR7 and VMR9 issues occur because of the UniChrome graphics. There are fine, almost cheap and noiseless DirectX9 cards out there. (ATi 9200, 9600, nVidia 5200). If you want your wife to believe, switch your graphics card. ;)

Or try a MB with integrated graphics from nVidia or ATi.

    Hi,

jup. You are right wortelsoft. The 9200 is similar to the 8500 (DX8.1). So:

    ATi: 9550 and above
    nVidia: FX5200 and above
