I have a bit of egg on my face after building a new HTPC for my mum. This is the most powerful HTPC that I've built and yet it's the most unresponsive of my 3 hardware upgrades, and 3 other friends' HTPCs despite being significantly more powerful than any of them.
I'm running TV Series and Moving Pictures. No TV. Main problem is an extremely long time to load start playing videos, up to 4 mins in some cases, and the same with DVDs.
Everything works like a treat though Windows Media Player, so I know it's not hardware related. The only thing different software wise on this HTPC vs all the others I've installed MP on is that it's running the latest version. My friends are running either V1.0.0.0 or V1.1 Alpha and I'm running V1.0.0.0. No-one else has the problems that I'm having with 1.1 B1 so I'm guessing it's something in that, but what?
I'm going to try going back to 1.1 Alpha and see if that has any benefit but in the mean time, some advice would be greatly appreciated.
