I use ATI Remote wonder (RF), so nogo there.

I guess it's more then FFDshow. I can't switch to Cyberlinks Dshow filters either, when FFdshow is uninstalled.

Logitech Harmony can mimic any remote.

I wouldn't use so many different codecs tbh.. As they apparently seem to interfere with eachother.

I must have haali, right ?
I must have mpc and mpa, right ? They come with Mediaportal install I think or maybe it's me that got them trough the pestered SAF installation i did earlier.
To be able to play Bluray I must use a capable player and that is Cyberlinks Power DVD, right?
This must be barebone codec pack in my opinion.

I maybe have to unregister them all and start from nothing again. :(

I use 3 codecs total, CoreAVC for H264 (comes together with haali) ffdshow for MPEG2 and AC3Filter for all sound (spdif) They work beautifully together.

Remember if you use AC3Filter to select DirectSound for the audio... Otherwise you wont hear anything from some of the movies, depending what format the audio is in.

I'd un-install all codecs except PDVD7 and the MPC MPV/MPA codecs which come as part of MP.

Then run Filmerit - Filmerit - to check for & fix codec (filter) errors.

    Re-install CoreAVC.

If you want to use FFDShow, install it, then open up the FFDshow video and audio settings and change the 'merit' (in 'DirectShow control') to 'unlikely'. Also in the 'codecs' section disable everything to start with, then enable only the ones you need. If you want to force FFDshow to be used, try increasing the 'merit' to 'very high' in stages.

You need the Haali splitter installed for MKV's.

Basically, in MP the preferred codecs are loaded into the filtergraph, but then it's left to the normal DirectShow capabilities & merit system to decide which codecs are actually used, so you may need to raise or lower the filter (codec) merits to get the codecs you prefer. The Graphstudio 'insert filter' dialogue can do filter merit changes.

Hi and thanks for taking your time to read my frustrated threads.:)
I have now uninstalled PDVD7 and cleaned the system registry for any Cyberlink trails.
I have tried different versions of FFdshow. Doesn't matter. I can't choose what I want in MP. I have done a fresh install of MP again.

For the moment I only have MP and Core AVC + codecs for using "online videos" f.e. watching Apples HD trailers. I have no Idea how you Kossu can have only 3 directshow codecs installed. Even though not all of them are decoders I have 223 directshow filters, Filmerit tells me. I'm not sure which one to disable. Should I uninstall WMP11 as well?

So I have tried Filmerit but what to do when I have errors (look at the attached picture) ? I have used Radlight filtermanager 1.5 but it seems not working when it comes to the opinion on the merit ladder compared with GraphStudio.

The most annoying thing of all this is that I'm not able to play mpeg1 files, (I started another thread but there is no answer yet) I have attached the graph when using MPC player outside MP and playing a mpeg1 file. Inside MP no mpeg1 file at all will be played. The low merit splitter (on the attached picture) I can't find in GraphStudio, Radlight or Filmerit. Not even the CLSID string can be found in Windows system registry. If I do find it, I could try to up the merit points to get it to play in MP, but how do I found it?

Gspot says my mpeg1 files are OK and that I have codecs :(

Please help. This is very frustrating..

so maybe it´s really time to consider a clear new installation if you like the idea or not.

First you could make an image of your current OS partition (with a bootable CD, image 1) so you can play it back anytime you need. Install clean Windows with latest SP, make an Image of this again (image 2). Play with MP-Installation, codecs etc. If works, good. If not, you can start again from scratch (copy image 2 back) or copy image 1 back.

This approach takes much less time then what you have already spent with your tests. But still few hours...

I know this is no real cure to your problem but my setup works as it should:
Vista 32bit, EVR renderer, Haali splitter (with avi support), PowerDVD7 (user as mpg2 and h.264 codec both with DXVA), ffdshow (for the rest like divX, xvid and as audio codec), for apple trailers Quicktime and MediaLooks QuickTime DirectShow filter.
I used AC3Filter also, Reclock aswell (pal speedup of 24fps films), but this is optional. Nothing else (no vobsub but MPC subtitle engine).

    btw
the low merit splitter is maybe an internat splitter of media player classic, not registered in the system at all. That´s why you don´t find it anywhere else. Kossu said that he uses only 3 codecs, said nothing about directshow filters or number of installed codecs. He has also more, like you.

Nuke and reinstall, that's what I'd do too - codecs can become a real PITA if they get confused.
    I'd only install:
    Haali media splitter
    FFDshow
    VSfilter
Quicktime Alternative (for quicktime playback & Media Player Classic)
Then test and see - if you get it working (and you should), I'd then install the AC3 filter and test again.

With this setup I have NO issues playing most media files :)

    Thanks

I gues I have to take it from the start again.

It's a lot of copying though.... all films and also one day of updating the splendeed "Moving picture" plugin.

I have learned a lot and a fresh install with my experience on top would eventually solve the problem.

But I didn't learn the cause of the problem and that pisses me of. I'm used to solve problems. In my proffession I solve problem all the time... thats my earning. Both hardware and software, so to have to give up like this and never have control of the PC is not my style.
But as you say kszabo I maybe have to give up. The time and effort is is to much.

I'll be back. Hasta la vista.:D
