Video has begun lagging every 1 second (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys

I have recently gotten a problem regarding lag when watching videos, it is comming almost every second, just one drop of frames, and then it is fine again a second.

Can anyone of you guys point me in the right direction?

Are you using IFC? If yes deactivate it and retest.

Thanks for the reply.

But i found the source of the problem, which i dont think is spelled out enough in the mp wiki.

I used the resolution which my television could manage, eg. it is a 720p plasma, then it got 720p resolution. However, the processor inside the tv could not match the fps from the MC, when getting that resolution. But when i applied 1920x1080p then it just worked, the lag, framedrop - almost everything was fixed.

Interesting indeed. The question whether the picture should be upscaeld by the PC or by the TV is an almost philosophical one. In general it is recommended to use the native resolution of your screen, in order to minimize calculation, filters, etc. You case proves the opposite.

Well, my Panasonic TH-42PX80, cannot handle it.

i have tried to use the panels native resolution, it just made the picture looking very strange.
However, if one is taking a look on the specifications of the TV, then it is made clear that even though this is only a 720p tv, it is showing its best performance at 1080p resolution.

But i think i know why this is, and it all makes sense.

The Tv is ultimately made for HD formats, which is only supported by HDDVD and BD.
A BD-player is always sending 1080p out to the TV, no matter what format it is playing (Being SD, HD and FullHD).
So it does not make any sense to support 100 different strange formats, when there is only like 5 formats which is sensible to support.

I kinda knew this, but i thought that the TV would be the better part in up/downscaling, and therefore the resolution from the MC should match the panels native resolution or 720p. But that was definetly not the case.

I hope that someone can either put this into the mp code, when installing telling the user to check the wiki if laggy playback is present. And of course something more understandable should be written in the wiki regarding this subject.

The native resolution of your TV is 1024x768 - and that's neither 1080p nor 720p. Did you use the 1024x768? If not you may want to set your PC to 1024x768 and let MediaPortal handle the resolution.
