video playback controls (1 Viewer)

I have been using MP for a few days now as a alternative to MCE and I quite like it.

One reason I tried it out was to see if MP could fast forward & rewind DIVX/XVID files as MCE cannot do this. I was glad to find that it could but I have one question about playing videos in general.

At the menu screens, if I move my mouse to the top of the screen the play, pause, f.f., r.w., controls appear. But if I am playing a video full-screen this does not work and I have to go back to the main screen so I can see the controllers.

Is there a way to get the controls to appear at the top when in full screen playback?

I currently do not have a remote so I have to use a wired keyboard & mouse. Hopefully sometime soon I will have a MCE remote &/or a wireless keyboard mouse.

:D for any help

Can no-one help?

I'd like the control bar for play/pause/ff/rw to work when watching a video in full-screen. At the moment, it will only appear when video is in preview mode and I move my mouse to the top of the screen.

Depending upon which skin you are using, a "right-click" on your mouse should bring up an OSD with the controls you are after. Alternately, use the keys on your keyboard (B, space bar, arrow keys, etc ...).

    Hi Taipan,

I tried what you suggested but it didn't work.
    When I have a video playing full-screen and I right-click, I get a window with 2 options - Aspect ratio & Previous window.

If I click previous window, this will take me back to the main menus where I can move my mouse to the top of the screen and the controls appear.
This is a bit of a pain as when I unpause I then have to do a second step of clicking the video preview window in the bottom corner so it goes back to full-screen again.

    Any other ideas?

Depending upon the skin you are using, moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen brings up an OSD with Pause/Play etc... (I incorrectly told you it was a "right-click" - )

Alternately, you can use your keyboard - space-bar is Pause/Play, B is stop, arrow keys are skip (keep pressing for bigger increments), etc ....

    Again thanks Taipan,

I have seen the OSD you are speaking of, but that only has play/pause which is fine for most things I worry about.

I'll just have to get a MCE remote or wireless keyboard with trackball.

That poses another question - do you know, rather than having the MCE remote receiver and a wireless keyboard receiver, if they will work through only one of them

ie. use the MCE Remote receiver to get signals from the MCE remote and the keyboard -OR- use the keyboard receiver with both the remote and keyboard.

They are probably going to be specific for each meaning you have to have the 2 receivers or how many many receivers you have.

With the later SVN versions, assuming you have enabled "Show special mouse controls" in setup application under General, you should get a progress bar when moving the mouse to the top of the screen. You should also be able to click on the progress bar to jump to specific positions in the video.

Other than that, keyboard shortcuts are the best way to skip or fast-forward/rewind. (See keyboard shortcut reference that mPod linked to).

I have seen the progress bar up the top and have tried to ff by clicking on the bar but it didn't work. I'll have to play around with it a bit I think!
