Video Playback freezes (1 Viewer)

Hi all, I've recently upgraded my motherboard/proc/ram .... and now (after a non-specific length of time) video playback freezes - it's driving me nuts!!! The sound keeps going and after a while the video tries to catch up - again only to freeze and stay that way. End up having to kill MP. The ironic thing was my old motherboard config actually worked quite well and it was an unsupported PIII !!! with hardly any RAM !! Just really slow GUI...so don't suggest I go back.

I've seen similar posts around and have followed all the suggestions. I've tried changing out my GFX card (to a quadro 4) and sound card updating all the drivers along the way and no dice! Tried rolling back to MP 0.2.2 changing the playback options for audio&video. - It does work using an external player (like VLC) but my MCE remote doesn't work and I don't want to go down the HIP path just yet.....Please help me conquer this beast!!

You should try to get hold on some DX9 compatible video adapter for testing as NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 is not a DX9 card.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Just a couple of points. Things have been running daily on the GeForce4 for over a year, totally fine, never skipped a beat - and the problem still occurs when I substitute the card with a Quadro.

My setup is less than ideal with a GeForce4 I know, but I'm looking for suggestions to get things working 'as is' since I don't have any other options and I've witnessed the GeForce4 working.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

When you changed the hardware, did you reformat HDD before installing xp again, may be a remnant of a old system file, or simply something on this motherboard.

Try using as many older drivers (if its not a current motherboard) Graphics etc as a starting point.

MX440 support really did die out at 84xx drivers, so theres a starting point.

Thanks again - I didn't re-format the drive - I will try a full clean install and work my way up with drivers.....and I will contact my local museum and see if they're interested in my GeForce.
