Video Playback speed not constant (1 Viewer)

here is my config:

Windows Version: XP sp3 En
CPU Type: AMD Athlon
HDD: 1*160 + 4*500GB external
Memory: 2GB
Motherboard: Dell Optiplex 740 SFF
Video Card: Nvidia Quadro NVS 210S
Video Card Driver: Lastest from Nvidia
Sound Card: Audigy 2 Nx USB
Sound Card AC3: idem
Sound Card Driver: Latest from Creative
1. TV Card: Hauppauge PVR USB2
1. TV Card Type: Analog
1. TV Card Driver: Latest from Hauppauge
MPEG2 Video Codec: MPV
MPEG2 Audio Codec: MPA
h.264 Video Codec:

When playing DiVX files, video playbakc is not constant. It goes sometime quicker. The easyest way to recover original speed is to pause/unpause playback.

I searched thru the forum without finding an idea.

Fixed by updating ffdshow.
Not shur update was needed, I installed the last version an the problem is gone.

OK, have had similar, First uninstall FFDShow, then run filmerit (link in sig) if any errors found unlock padlock, accept agreement hit bugs button and repair, reboot.
Run filmerit again and just make sure no errors remain.

Reinstall FFDShow, in config i have all stable formats set to libavcodec (right click and select on any codec)

See if that helps.

If not maybe try a light codec pack, like cccp or vista codec pack, as these can give some registry tweaks.

Thanks for your answer, I'll try this tonight at home.
I spend a long time to refresh my memory about recent changes I made on this machine that could cause the problem.
It seams to be related to my audio card driver.
I rolled back to a previous version and I faced another problem. Video are now to slow with very bad noise.
I reinstalled the last version and the problem seems to be solved (until when??)

Anyway, I will have a look at filmerit that looks nice.

I have experienced playback of films accelerating for a few seconds and then slowing to normal speed again. Dont know if this is how the effect is occuring on your system or not tho.

In my case the effect happens when I try and play back 24fps or 23.976fps film with my refresh rate set to 50Hz.


i now use reclock as its the only way Ive managed to get smooth playback on my system which has also solved the speed up problem.

Sound driver

Ok, here are some more info.

After playing arround with codec, players and all the stuff, I located the origin of the problem : the sound card drivers!
I have the same problems with all kind of audio/video files with all players except vlc.

After upgrading the sound drivers, the speed problem is different, but still there. The file is not played too fast, but with "gap" like the source is not fast enough to provide the file (but it is not the problem as my drives are OK and I have the same problem with all sources dvd-hdd-usb-...).

I have a creative Audigy 2 NX that worked like a charm before I reinstalled the computer a few weeks ago. I tried all the drivers I founded on the web without having a solution.

Honestly, if I can avoid reinstalling, I will be happy.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Problem is solved.

As strange as it could be, updating video card driver solved the problem (until now)
I hope it is a long term solution.

If it a ATI card, there are sound settings inside the CCC which can totally screw up your windows sound, obviously these are for hdmi sound transference to a tv, but seem to get easily activated by user from the few posts i have seen with similar issues.
