I have been using MediaPortal for over 2 years. Recently I decided to change my HDD to a Solid State drive and upgrade to Windows 7. Now with my new build, I get a video stutter every 4-6 seconds. I tried with the default Windows codec and then I installed the latest SAF codecs, but both result in the stutter.

I decided this was going to be a good time to try some competing products so I configured the Windows Media Center and installed Boxee and XBMC. The stutter issue only occurs in MediaPortal..... all other products worked perfectly out of the box.

Thoughts?

It could be Catalyst Control Center (Video drivers).

I had stutter with 11.11, and the only version that worked for me is 11.4

Thanks for the reply. I initially thought that CCC was the culprit as well, but it doesn't explain why MCE, Boxee and XBMC all work flawlessly.

None of the above use M$ dx9, most probably that could be a factor.

Can you try outputting 720p to your tv, now see if it stutters, if it does not, then that proves the HD3200 has not got enough grunt to power MP.

As a SAF user - can you try to play your video in graphstudio - START - SAF - Tools - Graphstudio.
Drag and drop your file in graphstudio and hit play - does it stutter?

I have an old laptop with a HD3200 and it is quite capable of deinterlacing a 1920x1080 live broadcast in mediaportal (as long as you don't try vector adaptive deinterlacing) so I wouldn't blame the GPU.

Maybe something is running in the background. I find mediaportal very susceptible to stutter if there is anything running in the background - just opening CCC next to mediaportal in a window seems to cause it to stutter.

Thanks, but 720p didn't make a difference. As another test, I tried playing a 1080p movie and it played fine, but I noticed another issue that occurs with anything from 720p and higher. Even when it does play without stuttering, the motion is not very fluid. It is almost like the frame rate make be lower than it should be.

Again, worked fine for over 2 years with Windows XP and MediaPortal. The issue only started after the new build using Windows 7.
