Videos not playing from where left off in MP 1.4 (1 Viewer)

I have recently upgraded to MP 1.4. I did have some issues with TV resuming from sleep - was not coming back to expected screens as per earlier versions of MP - this was fixed with updates from Sebastii.

When I went to play Videos, I noticed that if I stopped playback anywhere before the end of the movie and go watch TV or do something else in MP 1.4, and then go back to that movie I get the message if I want to start playback from the start or from where I left off. If I choose from where I left off, the movie still starts from the beginning.

I restored a copy of MP 1.3 and checked this behavior and it started from where I left off.

I never performed any special configuration tasks for the Videos setup in the past and see no configuration settings which may fix this issue. The settings are identical to the MP 1.3 settings.

What may be causing this?

Just an update, this is a fresh install. As far as logs are concerned, anyone can create there own by doing a fresh install and starting a movie under 'Videos', then stopping it, and resuming - it will give the option to resume from the time it left off before, but will actually play from the start.

I did notice one interesting thing though, if I played a DVD ISO (using Virtual Clone Drive in MP). it would resume were left off.

Having major issues with resuming from sleep with the TV not returning to where it left off (even though an area 51 patch fixed this), and now this resume playback in Videos issue with no ideas on fixing it, I will be reverting back to MP 1.3.0 as I have found it to be far more stable and reliable at the moment.

Hopefully the next 1.x version will be better than 1.4.0 (or perhaps MP 2 Final will be available by then).

Anyway, just thought I would voice the issue here so that if others are having the same issue with MP 1.4.0 then they are not alone.

My point in labelling your post as I did is that we're not able to reproduce, so without log files telling us the details of the files you're playing etc. etc. etc. we are unable to assist. I note we would consider this a showstopper problem if it affected everybody.

Exactly! As above, the files you're playing could be the issue. ;)

The problem with resuming for your videos likely won't be fixed... because I've seen nobody else report this problem and we currently don't have enough information from you to pursue the problem.

We appreciate the report, but we don't agree with the assumption that you seem to have made that if you are experiencing problems then everybody else must be as well. Please consider that MediaPortal is used by thousands of people all around the world and we're not able to test with all possible configurations... :)

Exactly which log files do you need? I have noticed that there are numerous created and some may not be required?

I will add that I had performed an upgrade from MP 1.3 twice with the same result and a fresh install once - can completely understand that not all MP users are having this issue, just seems to be persistent with my HTPC (which is a single-seat system).

    The hardware I use is:

    CPU: i3-3220
    Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77M - D3H - MVP (v1.1)
HDD: System = 1TB Seagate, TV Recordings and Timeshift = 1 TB WD Blue
Optical: LG BluRay/DVD writer COMBO drive
TV Cards: 1 x Dual DVICO PCIe and 1 x Dual Leadtek PCI
Movie Storage: 2 x 2 TB (mirrored) on a DLink NAS

I can confirm that the majority of my video files are MKV with some AVI's - both types cause this issue. As stated earlier, DVD rips (ISO's) seem to play and resume fine.

I can easily re-image to my fresh MP 1.4 installation and play a video etc and then collect all relevant logs.

    Will post logs this evening.

    Hi,

I have collected logs and attached.

When the debug mode is started, the defaultwide skin is automatically used. When I tested for my issue, it did not occur - all movies I tested resumed fine from where I left off. The attached *.zip file is the debug log for this.

When I chose the defaultwide skin manually, in the MP GUI option, the issue re-occurred on a all movies I tested (same ones as in the debug test above).

I use the latest StreamedMP skin, this is the one that I originally noticed the issue.

I have also attached a *.rar file. In there there are the MP and TV log files - I attached these logs since they are the usual ones being generated when I test and the issue occurs.

    Thanks John0502 :)

From the log files it looks like the problem is the HTPC Info plugin. Please disable and confirm it fixes the problem. If we can confirm that, the process would be to report the problem to the plugin developer.

    MM,

That was it! Thank you to you and Holzi, the issue has been identified. I have troubleshot plugins before, but it was usually due to an error they themselves produced or MP not starting at all. I would not have thought that a plugin that actually works would affect a completely different function, Videos, the way it does.

I will endeavor to notify the developer of the plugin about this. I may also try a previous version of the plugin to see what how it affects the Video resume function.
