When I play videos that don't have square pixels from MP My videos, they do not display at the correct aspect ratio. For example a video which is encoded with 640x480 (4:3) but a display ratio of 2.21:1 still plays at 4:3 in MP, but in other players like WMP, MPC, Zoomplayer etc it plays at the correect 2.21:1

I've uploaded a sample video to demonstrate this problem:

Tested that clip on my dev PC. Both VLC and MediaPortal show the aspect ration correctly.

    Hi,

File was mpeg4 file, so MPV shouldnt be able to decode that. Or maybe the file extension is just wrong and it indeed a MPEG2 file. That would then use MPV -> aspect ration bug.

    Hi,
nope, downloaded it now & tested - it uses cyberlink h264, but AR it's correct here using MP.

Ok I just changed the decoder from coreavc 1.7 to ffdshow and the AR is now correct.

So I guess it's a problem with coreavc and MP because other players using coreavc display the correct ratio. This is a shame as coreavc is a much better decoder (and is not free).

CoreAVC won't handle non standard SAR's (sample aspec ratio).

If the SAR differs from 12:11 (PAL 4:3), 16:11 (PAL 16:9), 10:11 (NTSC 4:3) or 40:33 (NTSC 16:9), there is a chance that CoreAVC will crap out and display at wrong AR.

PowerDVD h264 codec displays all SAR's, use that or ffdshow if you have non standard SAR videos.

I also have this problem, using CoreAVC 1.8.5. stream in mkv container plays fine in windows mediaplayer / vlc player with sar 16/15 (720x576 @ 4/3). In mediaportal keeps at sar 1/1.
Might it be a problem related to driver/hardware? as at another computer (not htpc with output to plasma tv but normal pc wth lcd) it displays correctly.
