anything, yes it's weird that dvd was not affected by ati settings. Maybe the nvidia decoder overrides completely ati settings.

thkogel, just read what people said...

1. As anything said: "if you have an ATI card go to the colour page, change desktop to fullscreen 3D and change the brightness/contrast there. this way the desktop stays the same."

2. As taipan said: "The nVIDIA icon only appears when the video decoder is in use - so you have to be watching TV or a DVD and then the icon will appear. "

I found a solution. Not mine, I read in some posts in the forum some time ago.
The problem is that the input values for Red, Green and Blue are not 0-255 ranged, but 16-235. Mediaportal does not take this into account and for example 0 value is displayed as 16 which is something gray instead of black. Same happens for brighter colours and 255 is not displayd correctly.

Solution: Use the levels filter in ffdshow. Change the minimum input value to 16 and the maximun to 235 and set the option full scale range. It worked great for me. The only downside is a little more CPU usage because of the filter, but it solved the problem.

Maybe future releases of mediaportal can fix this annoying thing. I hope so
