I have my on board audio connected to my receiver using SPDIF. When watching something that is dolby prologic I can control the volume with MP (pc volume). So this is fine.
Now when I go and watch something using dolby digital of dts I have to control the volume using my receiver, which is understandable.
But the strange thing is that when I switch back to something in dolby prologic I sometimes can't control the volume anymore in MP! I have to restart my pc to get it working again.

I use ffdshow and mpa as codecs.

Does anyone have this problem also, or do I do something wrong here?

Am I the only one with this problem?

    Hello hjbaard,

You need to have a PCM audio stream in order to control its volume through MP. Hence it may well be a setting issue in ffdshow or - more likely - your "incriminated" audio source is not PCM but something better like Dolby Digital or even DTS.

    My recommendation would be to
    1. completely forget about the volume setting of MP. Instead you configure your remote in a way that it only controls the receiver. Volume balance between Digital and PCM can then be done once in MP where you adjust the level of a PCM source in a way that it has the same volume level as the otherwise unadjustable digital or DTS source.
    2. set up MP in a way that it decodes ALL sources to SPDIF.

    Regards, HTPC_Sourcer

Thanks for answering! Unfortunately my remote (Gyration) can't control my receiver (in an easy way) but I have my receiver control also, so that is not really a problem.
Only the way my system reacts (sometimes the volume keeps working after switching from DD to Prologic and sometimes it's not) tells me something is not working correctly, that's all :)
