Hi,

I have an issue when playing my MKV movies.

When playing a file using zoomplayer, the picture looks fine. You can see an example with file "1-zp.jpg" attached.

However, when playing same file in MP, it looks washed out and brighter - see "2-mp.jpg".

Depending on the movie, it can look really bad and annoying. Scenes with colour and close ups of faces can look very good. But if its a dark scene or a nighttime scene, the image starts looking washed out.

Any fixes for this?
Thanks, Egg.

:D

egg, there is an option for setting the output colorspace in CoreAVC (at least in 1.7 version)

Could you try that and report back?

I have a HD2400 from ATI and I added the following key to get perfect result:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{2638EFBA-862D-46F0-8A21-5A9A7C7E1EDD}\0000\UMD\DXVA]
    "UseBT601CSC"="1"

For those less exp., downloading .vbs from here ->ATI HD Registry Tweaks is easier :)

    success!!! (i think!)

i tired changing the colour ranges, messing with codec merits etc and nothing helped ( I cant get coreavc to be the main mkv codec - according to graphedit). Regardless, when running the .vbs and saying yes to all, the picture is darker and matches the output from ZoomPlayer!! I need to do more testing, but what that file did, seems to have worked!

Yup! Makes PQ very much better IMO. If you follow the link in my first post every reg. key is explained in detail. Reading about these reg. tweaks was one of the reason I got my HD3450 (and ditched my 8500GT).

I wish there was a registry hack to be able to force 1080p@50 Hz, though. IMO ATi delivers good products that would be great if they just did not f**K it up with their drivers and software limitations and errors. (Guess the same goes for nVidia?).

    Hi Guys

I wonder If you can help or If I should post a separate thread - Im having exactly the same problems in that playing MKV files the black scenes are extremely black to the extent I cant make anything out, in the light scenes the picture Is great with no problems. I have been using mediaportal for a few years with no problems but this has beat me, the only thing I have changed with the set up is that I upgraded the ATI drivers to the latest version 8.6, I have now reverted back to the older drivers but the problem still remains. If I adjust the gamma in the ATI control panel It does help but It then affects the whole picture, If I play the movies outside of mediaportal in MPC the picture looks spot on with no problems.
Im using Mediaportal RC1 with CoreAVC and ffdshow my Graphics card is a ATI X700

If anybody can help I would very appreciative
