Did a quick test - and this method works flawlessly!!!

Here is what you need to do:
    • follow the (very few and easy) instructions in the link given: RARFileSource
    • add .rar in MediaPortal configuration -> Videos -> Video extensions

Please report back your experience with this. As I pointed out, I did not test extensively, and only on test PC (HTPC currently in "family-usage").

Seems pretty cool. I still prefer to unrar stuff first, though. Don't know why. This could be handy in combination with the new myTorrents plugin, though!

Well, it depends. If there is no need/benefit from unraring, I don't see why I should bother. Also, seeding is nice - deleting the rar is not :)

I know this is a feature that has been requested by users many times, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy this filter solved this.

Just tried deleting some of the part.rar's and sadly it did not work :(

This might be "by design", so you could perhaps contact the author (who has made the code available to the public).

I'll drop him a line. I expect the problem is that with only some rars present you extract an incomplete avi file which most players don't like (only VLC can handle it I think, and even then seeking doesn't really work properly).

Anyone know how this handles encrypted rars? I know it won't work with compressed ones, but how 'bout encrypted?

Seems like this only works with MyVideos and not MovingPictures - which I find strange (I have only tested My Videoes, but another user reported that it did not work with MovPic). Must ask fforde...
