My mistake. It is, of course, the thumb cache that takes ages now. Creating only the skin cache doesn't take that long.

I'm not clear on what the solution here is (I'd like to set this up too)

TVSeries.xml shows

<remoteColor>FFa6c3e1</remoteColor>
<!-- Watched color -->
<downloadColor>d4d2d2</downloadColor>
<!-- not watched color (normal) -->
<textcolor>FF78ace0</textcolor>

So in theory the episodes should be d4d2d2 (Grey?) when watched and FF78ace0 (white?) when not. they are all showing as white though however. Personally the "icons" are useless to me because my TV isn't large or clear enough to see them at a glance so I'd like to disable them too and just use color codes but I can't get it working...

I have the same issue as you with both watched and unwatched showing as white (this is under streamedMP). Can anyone recommend another color ID to use for watched?

I think its related to the issue that I am using 0-255 color range for deep blacks for my RPTV.

You will find the values twice in the TVSeries.xml file.
The first occurence is how they look in the series display and the other how they look in the episode display.

These are the old values, white, blue and red.

PHP:
          <remoteColor>FFa6c3e1</remoteColor>
          <!-- Watched color -->
          <downloadColor>d4d2d2</downloadColor>
          <!-- not watched color (normal) -->
          <textcolor>FF78ace0</textcolor>
          <!-- local file not present color -->
          <textcolor2>FF78ace0</textcolor2>

Okay I just spend 3 hours fixing this myself

Under the heading
in TVseries.xml

make these changes

<control>
<description>Text List (Episode No. + Name for epsiode) (Season No.)</description>

change

<!-- Text -->
<downloadColor>ffffffff</downloadColor>
<!-- not watched color (normal) -->
<remoteColor>FFa6c3e1</remoteColor>
<!-- watched color -->
<textcolor>FF6E7B83</textcolor>
<!-- local file not present color -->
<textcolor2>ffffffff</textcolor2>
<!-- local file not present colorcolumn 2-->
<textcolor3>ffffffff</textcolor3>
<!-- local file not present color column 3-->

The two numbers in bold are where you set the colors. The first is the 'watched' and the second the 'not available' color

User Hexadecimal Color Chart, Web Safe Colors to pick yourself a color

or use the two I've listed there.

the first two letters are the transparency levels. Always set it to FF or you'll lose the text when you highlight the episode

so for bright red you'd use FF0000 and precede it with the FF for transpearancy so you'd change the entry to FFFF0000

Just drag the sliders around on that page I linked to choose a nice color then replace the # in the RGB value with FF

also If you want to get rid of the horrible icons that have been introduced delete

tvseries_WatchedNA.png
tvseries_Watched.png
tvseries_UnWatchedNA.png
tvseries_UnWatched.png

from C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\skin\Blue3\Media

You may want to leave

tvseries_SeriesListIcon.png and tvseries_SeasonListIcon.png as the number of 'unwatched' episodes on the series or season view might look odd without them

Here's what mine looks like now. Much nicer IMHO

Before

After
